Milled from a single piece of titanium, this aptly named fountain pen is not only solid but also heavy, weighing about 1.7 ounces. And that’s not including the weight of the two-piece, full-length aluminum sleeve. The slightly tapered body—which is precision milled, polished, and finished with a PVD coating—boasts a crisp and clean silhouette. The PVD coating is made of 99.99% pure titanium, making the pen ten times harder than steel and thereby impervious to scratches. For a truly head-turning writing instrument, upgrade to the P’3135 with 18-karat gold PVD coating, which comes with a matte-gold aluminum case.
Note: At checkout, you can select Titanium with Fine, Medium, or Broad nib. You can also upgrade to Gold with Medium nib (+ $150).
Among the many notable design elements of the P’3135, perhaps most innovative is the cleverly concealed converter. Flush with the end of the barrel, the spring-loaded end cap must be depressed, then unscrewed, in order to access and fill the converter. Bringing it all together is the 18-karat gold nib, which is rhodium-plated (on the titanium version only) and engraved with the Porsche Design logo.
Since it was released in 1963, the Porsche 911 has served as the central inspiration for the company’s design team. And why not? This classic German car is all superlatives: the most meticulous construction, the highest-quality materials, the most attractive aesthetics. It’s this approach that has earned Porsche Design dozens of awards, and it’s not just the automobile basking in the glory. Sunglasses, smartphones, stereo speakers—this German powerhouse does it all, including pens, and the P’3135 Solid lives up to the company’s reputation.
