Hey guys, stop being so harsh on this drop. It's probably one of the most decently priced out there.
For the shipping. MD shipping is a bit of a mystery at times.
"but aren't you a doctor and not a calligrapher?"
Well Jim, why do you think my handwriting is so bad?
Also, I can't parse what that quote from the site trying to tell me the weave actually does.
Dr.McCoyWell actually thought I understood what it meant when I first read it. Now not too sure. But my guess is that when you lay the pen into paper it compresses and expands like a shock absorber. Then again, someone who actually owns it might know and will hopefully let us know.
lgmfnpcThat's not a bad price at all. So it seems this is all about the gold plating (especially since you said yours had the gold nib). I'm curious how much gold actually get plated on this.
No it has a gold nib with rhodium plating. It's exactly the same pen without the gold plating. I think the silver looks better than the gold. It is a heavy pen and quite unusual looking. I don't know if the braided metal makes it cost more or whether it's the Porsche name. I just liked the way it looked and, after receiving it, liked the way it wrote so smoothly. Mine has a medium nib but writes more like some of my broads.
lgmfnpcI'm sure it is a nice pen and definitely not dogging on it. Just trying to understand what made this expensive. Is it just the Porsche stamp, the gold plating (that's should be that much) or something else.
I assume your stainless came with a stainless nib? I know that the gold nib will certainly add a little chunk to the cost.
Could I ask what you paid for your stainless?
I'm not sure if I really want to pay 800 dollars for a pen that doesn't at least have a catch better than "it's gold"
Correction: It's not gold at all, it's actually just plated. Why is this 800 dollars? .-.
Your response makes total sense. I completely agree. My only issue has been my experience with plating. I have a few watches where the plating has failed (rubbed off) and then ultimately been wasted.
VerwilderdSure plating can go wrong. My hope is that between Porshe and Pelikan it would be done right. I'm going to guess the warentee is halfway good.
Has anyone checked theirs out yet? Disappointingly, mine has a tiny dent in the cap. Waiting to hear back from Massdrop customer service about what can be done about it.

Dear all. I have this in steel "M" nib. A truly wonderful wonderful pen. One of my favorites. I understand Porsche pens used to be made by Faber Castell & are mow made by Pelikan. Best wishes.
