This appears to be a good buy. It's one of a few stoves that can operate with almost all fuel types including isobutane canisters when using the appropriate jet to optimize the burn / efficiency -- which in turn reduces soot buildup. The optional add-on kit appears to have all the required jets. Additionally, I've read that the silencer feature may help keep the jet clear from carbon buildup. To answer a question below, I've used Colemen fuel in an MSR whisperlite to melt snow with no problems. The MSR whisperlite universal would be my ideal stove if only the pot supports were a little closer together. All together, this stove + pump is slightly heaver than the whisperlite universal system. Currently, the stove is more expensive on Amazon. For those interested in a review from the backpacking community: https://backpackinglight.com/forums/topic/105687/ Finally, the optimus nova / polaris also use a leather cup inside the pump. I'm not entirely sure why outdoorgearlab gave this stove such a negative review because the pump cup can be fixed by literally unscrewing the pump handle and making a quick adjustment -- no tools required. Granted, I agree that a rubber pump cup like those in the MSR pumps would be more reliable. Still, the almost all aluminum construction will help prevent stripped screws and accidental breakage over an all plastic pump in cold weather. Guess I'll have to get one in hand to see what the fuss is all about.

Anyone have winter experience with this stove? Is the heat output reasonable enough — with white gas/Coleman fuel — to make this a viable option for melting snow for winter backpacking use?

Some good points I found the adapter at the end of the fuel line to be very heavy bulky. But it seems the leather pump cup has major issues https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/reviews/camping-and-hiking/backpacking-stove/primus-omnilite-ti

Massdrop sucks. This is only $50 cheaper than MEC. You have to wait weeks to get the item and if there’s an issue good luck with that. I’d rather pay more and have the guarantee that if it fails I don’t have to mail it away and wait without a stove. You need to be a lot cheaper to make it worth the hassle.

Again ono chance to buy the base only. I bought this stove from massdrop when the base was not offered. Why aren't we able to honor previous buyers and just offer us the base only?? How many times do i have to request? Nothing is done noone is listening.

When buying the stove + silencer, do you receive the base burner cup as well?

You can change it yourself, but I don't recommend buying it because the sound is getting smaller but the firepower is getting smaller too.
