The top is a ton of fun to play with. I keep it on my desk at work and spin it while I work. When I am feeling unproductive, I'll allow myself to be off task for as long as the top will spin, then it's back to work. (Don't tell the boss, that I can get a decent spin out of it from time to time) The ruby in the clear stem is a wonderful touch that makes me appreciate the upgrade even more.
I got the ruby option. I'm glad I did as you can see through the stem right through the ruby bead.
its neat to shine a light through it while its spinning.
good weight and good spin time, not as good as other due to the lack of weight from being hollow but is my favorite top that i own.
The grip at the top is a big plus as I have hyperhidrosis resulting in wet hands all the time which make it very difficult to get a good spin on smooth tops, pretty much impossible for me.
Totally awesome. I bought a small makeup mirror for four bucks and it sits on my coffee table, great conversation piece. Always gets a "wow" reaction when it finally falls down after everyone forgot about it spinning. Ive made it to 9 minutes, still hunting 10.
My first precision top. I got the copper with the ruby. My first spin was almost nine minutes. I'm impressed with the look and the performance of this top.
Excellent quality craftsmanship , I purchased the Solid Copper – Ruby Bearing top. Looks incredible and fantastic spin times. Very pleased with this purchase. Easily in my top three, for tops I've purchased.
The Lambdas are a reference in the world of precision spinning tops. I now have 5 of them and they all remain among my few preferred tops:
1) the brass version with ruby tip was one of my first precision tops (almost 3 years ago);
2) the brass version with stainless steel tip (bought on Massdrop, with the idea of comparing ruby and steel balls);
3) the copper version with ruby tip;
4) the brass/aluminium version with ruby tip (bought on Massdrop)
5) the tungsten/aluminium version with ruby tip
LOOK: the very good satin polish and the rounded shape makes these tops look very soft and elegant. The hollow spindle (designed for longer spins) also has a strong impact on how the ruby versions look, as it allows light from above to illuminate the ruby. Considering the whole design, I think ruby is the best fit for any version. The small red box in which they are shipped makes them look all the more like jewels.
DESIGN: the large clearance and the thin, delicately knurled spindle make all these tops very easy to spin. Due to the high Centre of Gravity, they have some hula-ing before reaching their sleep states (1 to 3 mins, depending on how far from vertical they are launched).
PERFORMANCE: The sleep phase is extremely stable, a proof of a very good balance. Best spinning times in 20 tries at 21°C (69.8°F) on a 3x vanity mirror:
brass/ruby 10:08
brass/st.steel 09:30
copper/ruby 10:12
brass/aluminium/ruby 11:34
tungsten/aluminium 18:02
