man, this hits a lot of what i want in the head, except the handle looks too slim. and sort of wish they had more micarta colors..... but on the other hand, this is preorder and i have mixed feelings about first batch knives. they can come with all sorts of weird unforseen problems, but theres definitely a 'first run' exclusivity about it

Whats too slim in your book (in mm or in)? This blade looks to be 3mm off of this; https://wanderoo.se/en/our-brands/group-5519263/qsp-knife-leopard-qs135 Which, if true, should put the body around 9-11ish mm, from my armchair detective work

yeah, 11 mm thickness is like my minimum, which is what the qsp penguin is. but also, the penguin's handle has a wide girth to it, whereas the leopard is thinner. i put this next to my zt450, and it looks like it has the same dimensions. which is probably my most uncomfortable knife i carry. hm... i do want to replace this, zt has a terrible heat treat, and i'm sure this knife's 14c28n has a better steel than this burned up s35vn oh i just got the reference, penguins are oblong and stout whereas leopards are sleep hahahahaha

Im not sure what you mean about the penguin having wide girth, its a flat 11mm throughout the handle, apart from the clip. Id venture a guess that this handles much the same, just with a smoother transition from each side due to the angles they gave it. They both have a 3mm spine on the blade and have very similar sizing where the blade meets the pivot. again from armchair detective work and a caliper on my penguin This body is a bit longer than the penguin with according to the specs on Drop, a very slightly smaller blade

uh.... so if we plot out x,y,z on a knife handle x - base of blade to butt of handle (10.8 cm) y- top of handle to bottom of handle z- thickness of handle (1.1 cm) the y is what i mean by the girth of the handle. handles that are really skinny in both y and z are an issue because there is so little to hold onto, and you lose a lot of control of the blade. the penguin has a wide girth so you can use more of your hand grip on it, and is easier to control

broad vs narrow handle or tall vs narrow handle maybe wide vs narrow handle I like tall because it emphasizes that there is a top and bottom to the thing

definitely tall and skinny. i think you can get away with more ergonomic issues with a tall handle as long as there arent any random tapers on the side profile, and for folders you can get away with having a narrow handle which aids pocketability, which is why i dont carry anything wider than a contoured 0.6 inches. back pocket carry so something thick back there is not fun when i sit down lol. short and skinny handles are the worst, because you cant get a grip on them, and they arguably feel better when you hold it like a pen or a brush (like the kershaw chill)

Ok, I'm tracking now. I dont think I've had enough pocket knives to really have a strong inclination towards one or the other... my favorite carry is the benchmade AFO, but I like a large feeling blade/handle. But that's not a super practical carry by any means for most

lol count yourself lucky. you only learn about these things when you buy knives that dont suit you, after you used/carried it a bit. i have a benchmade nakamura that i cant carry because it was literally giving me hip problems when i sit down, but i'm also too lazy to sell it lol. really should recoup that money

The S90 one (pretty sure that name is reserved exclusively for the s90)? I've been eyeballing lower tier one, almost nabbed it for 140ish, but reeling back from the blades this year... and trying to see if I can catch it cheaper. That or the Griptilian with CPM-20CV since I really want give their axis a chance again. Hated the feel of the standard Bugout, too slim for me

oh in that case you'll like the G10 Grip or Ritter RSK, they're fairly fat feeling in the hand

second this, both the small and large benchmade griptillians are pretty beefy, since they have a really well placed palm swell to both increase ergos and pocketability the small is 0.6 in thick at its thickest, which is perfect for me, been carrying the small 20cv forever now. top 5 in my collection

Yeah, the G10 is the CPM20, not going to lie, really like the Ritter for several reasons and it being more obscure than benchy. The handle looks like a nice pattern too But benchies 550 is a sheepsfoot and I'm a sheepfoot fiend... Right now it comes to sales and how low I can find the benchys grip. I'm pretty sure either one of these two will be what I thought the buyout should have been in my hands

Hopefully it feels solid, I have two QSPs and love em both. I'm curious what that backspacer is made of

i got my mini griptillian 20cv sheepsfoot for $140 since the shop i used to frequent was having a liquidation sale. second best deal i ever got on a knife. i miss that store. they're around $180-190 but i think they also just discontinued them, so you may want to be careful with waiting (or double check if they discontinued them or not) and i just got some flytanium blue hardware so it will be all gray and blue. figured i'd pimp one of my favorite knives hahaha

Yeah at this price point I wouldn't be surprised if it was some injection molded plastic, so G10 is a plus there

I've been eyeballing a full sized grip, sheepsfoot, for about 150. I've just seen it dip lower so I'll bite the bullet when I see that dip again... If not the sheepsfoot, I'd get the Ritter without hesitation

I got my 20CV mini from r/knife_raffles actually, it was my first raffle (I've only won twice, fml) and I've been using it with a Linos kydex sheath as a neck knife The Noryl GTX would definitely be a lighter/better fit for it but whatever, it's a hella capable necklace
