Product Description
New from QSP, the Woodpecker has a blade very similar to the beak found on its namesake: long, slightly sloped, and tapered to a fine point. It’s these qualities that allow the Woodpecker (both knife and bird) to excel at noodling into tight spaces with great accuracy Read More

See I don’t mind these sorts of knives but that price point can be a bit of a sticky situation with some consumers. I have a Lionsteel ROK and M390 is a PAIN to sharpen without diamond stones unless you’ve either been freehanding for years or just want to ruin the edge a put a micro bevel on it. Most people tend to drift towards S35VN or S90 because it’s much easier to sharpen as opposed to M390.

So, how good is this? I'm looking for a first M390 flipper and this is one I stumbled upon.

Alex1514On paper, the materials are all first rate and a definite bargain for the price. The fit, finish, lock engagement, etc., appear to be fine, but these things can’t truly be determined until the knife is held in the hand. The real make or break consideration, however, is the quality of the heat treatment on the blade and how consistently this heat treating (assuming it’s good) is applied to all blades in a batch. Finding honest, hands on reviews from other users is really the only way to assess the final two points prior to making a purchase.

Alex1514MI is right. Many have said that they would rather have a knife with bad steel that has excellent HT than vice versa. Many major companies will run their knives at a less than optimum HRC because there is less chipping of the blades and they are easier to sharpen. BHQ is the most likely site to find HRCs posted, in my experience.

I need a woodpecker like I need............??.........a prosthetic device. I'm still waiting on the Locust. Hopefully, the shipment hasn't been intercepted by Orkin. If I didn't have about a half-dozen M390 blade, I would get this. I have the Kershaw Link in M390 in my pocket right now. ($80 at the competition.)

DROP, can I write knife descriptions for you? It seems a little odd to claim "the Bohler M390 blade won’t rust or corrode if cared for properly" when every stainless steel blade won't rust or corrode if cared for properly. Kind of a silly way to promote a steel. In fact, when carbon steel blades are cared for properly they have the same capability. *Just poking fun at one of my favorite places to shop for knives.

What is that Garth Brooks tune? .......................... Oh, yeah. Unanswered Prayers. I won't be holding my breath on this one.

I don't know. I have never seen anyone on YouTube saying, "Hey, Bubba. Hold me beer while I electrocute my H1 steel." I found this article on google, but it was way too technical for a cool, sunny day. Maybe, I'll do more than skim it on the next cold and rainy day we have. https://knifesteelnerds.com/2019/06/24/h1-steel-how-it-works/
