Arrived nice and sharp out of the box. The snake wood is gorgeous. I threw a Qwik Stud on it and it fires like a rocket. Some kickbacks are still too stiff even with a Qwik stud on but this one has some nice action.
I tried but I really could not get behind this knife. It was an ok value and the fit/finish was pretty good for the price point. However for me it was too big. My first tip should have been the leather pouch which comes with it. The next should have been the measurements but in my defense sometimes a knife plays bigger or smaller once in your hands. The best features were the blade (which had a manufacturing blemish) and the case back lock. Since I did not need another knife which would quickly stay in the drawer, I returned it.
Drop customer service was very good on the return. I know they get blasted but I have always found them responsive and helpful.
The ideal folding knife for me: the round edge, the lock back mechanizm, the length of the blade - and the extreme quality per price.
It also came with a great leather holster
QSP is putting out some amazing values right now. The Worker is among them, but ultimately is a bigger and heavier affair than I'd personally like to carry. Actually - who is this for?
There's a lot of metal in this knife. Big bolsters, chunky wharncliffe (sheepsfoot to my eye) surrounded by thick metal liners and backed by another thick backspring and backlock bar. The snakewood looks rad, gives it a classy look. Deep carry pocket clip is firm and keeps it almost hidden in your pocket.
My gripes - and these are all personal to my tastes. I don't think I'm in love with a flat edged blade. Most of my cutting happens against a surface such as a plate or cutting board or mat, so I tend to like a knife with a belly. Flatter edged blades like the worker here don't work well against a surface, you end up cutting at the tip most of the time. How much would I love this with drop point blade like on a sodbuster - or even a spear point like on the Worker's little brother, the QSP Parrot.
The action on the blade is interesting as well. There's a backlock/backspring bar but you'll only feel the pressure in the last 20 degrees or so before the blade is closed. This makes it easy to open - even one handed by pressing a thumb against the blade and rotating out. It also means that when you release the blade with the backlock, it falls shut. Watch out! It's a heavy blade, swings shut easily, and if you release the backlock as the blade is shutting, it offers just enough pressure to add to the snap shut. Pretty easy to hit the back of your fingers with this one despite the lock being out of the blade's path.
Otherwise, this knife is huge. It draws clear inspiration from traditional knives, but it's the size of a modern mid size flipper. But it doesn't flip and it's way too heavy. It's like it's too much of an old guy traditional knife for fans of modern knives, and too big and chunky and fat (and has a pocket clip) for fans of traditional knives.
All in, it's a big chunky boi with a hard slicing blade seemingly directed at a niche audience. But it's well made and comes in at a value price. YMMV.
Beautiful hefty knife with confidence-inspiring lockback and good shape
Strong lockback feature, feels good in the hand. Shaved my arm out of the box. The sides do not look as good as they do in the pictures, but good enough (I bought the brown model; I still don't think I'd go for any of the other options).
For the price this is an excellent knife. I’ve been looking for a locking traditional style knife now for sometime and I think I’ve found a good one. I like the non pointy blade so people don’t freak out when I pull it out to use it. It’s very classy and non murdery. My wife thinks this knife is the most expensive in my collection (only if she knew how much the other knives really cost) just by looking at them. It comes with a okay quality sheath, but I don’t use it.
