Didn't know Lego was stepping out into the headphone game. Also, what's with having your ear resting directly against what looks like part of a cheesegrater? When did Massdrop go from having semi-high end products with some good reputation at an ACTUAL discount, to brands that aren't all that great/well known/overly high end, at not a very good discount?

Drewing101You shouldn't praise your lack of knowledge and experience. This brand is very well known in the high-end speaker industry and have made ribbon tweeters for quite some time. I suggest you Google them a bit. They should on par or better than the best headphones out there (Focal Utopia, Audeze LCD4, Abyss, Stax, etc.) https://www.headphone.guru/the-raal-requisite-true-ribbon-sr1a-earfieled-headphone-monitor-review/

LambisGuess you must be the cool kid with a bunch of expendable income to drop on $3k+ headphones, probably a $200+ amplifier, and will only listen to uncompressed WAV or FLAC files on these to justify how much you spent. Otherwise, I am proud of my ability to see that these headphones look awful, uncomfortable, and are so ludicrously outside the price range of folks looking to try to save money by opting into a bulk order of a product. Don't be proud of flaunting and fanboying for a brand that, in the case of Drop, is forwarding the progress that Drop has made to distance itself from reasonable and widely appealing deals towards increasingly exclusive and often failing "deals". Just look at how much of a joke the Outdoors category has become, there are 2 bags being listed for really awkward prices and uses that are decidedly NOT outdoors related (laptop bag, what looks like a courier bag/oversized lunchbox). The cooking category has died, everyday carry is basically nothing but pocket knives and flashlights, there are no cute little gadgets or fidget toys, and the tech category is filled with key caps and overpriced "gaming chairs" that have been proven to cause posture/back issues with prolonged use. This isn't just about a pair of insanely expensive, gaudy, niche headphones. It's also about one of the symbolic nails in the coffin of this website.

Drewing101TL;DR: I am poor, and so resentful about it I feel justified in judging anything expensive using purely my personal presuppositions, one of which is that I am the sole target audience of Drop.

RayFI wanted these long before this drop. I would buy it if I could afford it, the difference is that I don't spend my time complaining about not having money and then trying to disguise those complaints as objective criticism of what I can't afford. That being said, for somebody who likes to criticize people for how they spend their money, it's funny how much you spend on watches, considering precisely zero of those dollars are being invested in order to increase your capacity to know the time more accurately. I guess there is room in life for inefficiency in the service of subjective preference, but only for you, and not anyone else.

autoteleologyNot at all--you should be able to do so at will, but that's not the same thing as dissing what everyone is saying. Your stuff should stand on its own merits, not hump the legs of everyone else's comments like a pissed off chihuahua with a keyboard. And of course you can disagree, but make the damn counter point! A lot of what's going on here are people simply pointing out and objecting to the crude and disgusting excess of spending three-grand on headphones when there's A) a ton of better things one can do with that money, and B) so few people have that dough, or could justify the outlay--including most of the grunts who work at MD! You mention watches, and included mine--A) I'm most definitely on record making the same comments/judgement each time MD drops some obscenely expensive watch (plenty of which weigh in a more than $3k by the way). As for the watches I own (and headphones and amps) none of them were particularly expensive. But I would point out I am person who could scrape up three-grand to piss away on these cans or some damn watch (none of which are explicitly for telling time, for christ's sake), but would never do so in a million years. Trust me--I'm a real kill-joy when it comes to ostentatious, excessive wealth flashing in public. But even if I did have a lot of cash, I'd still practice what I'm preaching, 'cause I'm well aware there are plenty of people less well-off, or lucky than me at any given moment (I've been one of 'em and could be again someday). Don't misunderstand me, I don't begrudge the "having" part of expensive crap, just the "rubbing it in other folks noses" bit that I take exception to. And not to put too fine a point on it, but for a guy who says he hasn't got the cash for these, but who says he's wanted them for a while, what the hell are you thinking! If you haven't got three grand for these, there must be more important stuff you'd need, if Santa suddenly dumped the cash in your lap? I'd hate think these damn things would be at the top of your list?!!!

Drewing101They're $500 off retail if you add them to your cart. They also are better then any electrostatic Heaphone I've heard. They are the real deal. You haven't heard them so I would expect you to be a naysayer, because I was too before hearing them.

autoteleologyTl;dr I actually didnt read the comment, as not only did I point out that it wasn't just about the headphones, but I gave reasons other than "I'm poor and can't afford them". I've participated in close to a dozen drops on things that I've liked, and others have, as well, being that those drops were successful. So I'm not saying I am the absolute, end-all-be-all target audience, but that I'm a part of the target audience. And as a part of that target audience, I am resentful of the fact that this website is offering less and less in the way of variety and utility in the things it offers in favor of incredibly expensive glamor items that fewer and fewer people could afford or enjoy. This drop is overwhelmingly a mixed bag at best when you read the comments, meanwhile other full categories of items many consider useful have actually died out. This website is failing over forgetting the larger demographics in favor of flashy, overly expensive flaunting items (let's be real here, you can get arguably just as good of headphones for a third of the price, and they'll look better as well as likely feel a lot better). Reading and observation is easier when you pull your head out of your kiester.

Drewing101"I am resentful of the fact that this website is offering less and less in the way of variety and utility in the things it offers in favor of incredibly expensive glamor items that fewer and fewer people could afford or enjoy." What a load of crap! Never heard of the AKG 7XX, Sennheiser HD6XX, Fostex TH/R-X00, HE-4XX, Porta Pro-X, among countless others? Massdrop is continuously creating more and more options for more accessible audio staples. To condemn them for offering something such as this when there are a bevy of other options available is laughable. "This drop is overwhelmingly a mixed bag at best when you read the comments..." You mean the lemon party of commenters who are apparently so intelligent and educated about the product that at least half of them are complaining about the MAP because they're too lazy to read one paragraph into the description, and being full of piss and vinegar, immediately assume they've found another prime target to needle Drop over? "...meanwhile other full categories of items many consider useful have actually died out." Obviously the result of a conspiracy to make you hate this website and not because people like you don't actually spend enough money on what you claim to want, much like how people who spend all their time on Jalopnik wondering why manufacturers don't make cars that appeal to them anymore when they spent all their money on a used car. "This website is failing over forgetting the larger demographics in favor of flashy, overly expensive flaunting items...

Yeah, they're really failing to move product here by forgetting the larger demographics. "...(let's be real here, you can get arguably just as good of headphones for a third of the price, and they'll look better as well as likely feel a lot better." You can't get this type of headphone technology anywhere else, these are the first commercial ribbon headphones of their kind. Not that I have any faith whatsoever that you know what you're talking about, your PC37X (another product that the failing Drop offers that forgets the larger demographics) is probably the pinnacle of your listening experience. You don't even know how these sit on your head, based on your OP. Baseless, whiny, incorrect speculation is not useful to anyone here, pull your head out of your keister and stop reducing the noise to signal.

RayF"A lot of what's going on here are people simply pointing out and objecting to the crude and disgusting excess of spending three-grand on headphones" We're all familiar with the concept of the crude and disgusting excess of spending insert amount of money here on insert hobby I don't patronize, and yet most of us seem even more familiar with the concept of our values being subjective. It was easy for me to mock you for having a bunch of watches because I wear a mere single Casio DW5600BB, a watch designed to approach the ideal of practicality. Does that make me the arbiter of the value of a watch? "But I would point out I am person who could scrape up three-grand to piss away on these cans or some damn watch (none of which are explicitly for telling time, for christ's sake), but would never do so in a million years. Trust me--I'm a real kill-joy when it comes to ostentatious, excessive wealth flashing in public. Don't misunderstand me, I don't begrudge the "having" part of expensive crap, just the "rubbing it in other folks noses" bit that I take exception to." Well, how fortunate of you to have the privilege of having multiple watches, none of which are explicitly for the purpose of telling time. It would be a shame if photography of such humble non-timekeeping devices and other such tat made up around half of your flickr profile, someone might think that you're trying to rub how sophisticated your tastes are in other folk's noses. Remind me how many watches the great charitable RayF has donated to the Foundation for the Horologically Deprived again? "And not to put too fine a point on it, but for a guy who says he hasn't got the cash for these, but who says he's wanted them for a while, what the hell are you thinking! If you haven't got three grand for these, there must be more important stuff you'd need, if Santa suddenly dumped the cash in your lap? I'd hate think these damn things would be at the top of your list?!!!"" There is more important stuff I need. But that doesn't mean that these aren't worth the money if there isn't. I've heard super expesnive headphones at meets and I thought they were worth the money if you had the money. I just don't. Maybe someday these will be at the top of my list, and it just happened to be so for the four lucky people who got five hundred bucks off an unlikely drop. Do these people deserve to me made fun of with Dracula pictures or whatever it is you're doing any more than you deserve to be made fun of for enjoying watches that aren't designed solely around maximizing timekeeping value?
