Does the jacket comes with hands pockets? Or chest pocket only, both?

YanexSorry for the confusion - this drop is for the Flashpoint 2 Jacket, that comes with hand pockets. The older version had the chest pocket. I've had our copy updated to reflect the correct information.
How does this jacket compared to the Rab Muztag? From what i can see the Muztag is heaver, and have more pockets? What is the difference between 3L Pertex Shield+ and 3L eVent DVStorm?

Im looking for an ultralight jacket suitable for commuter cycling, ive had a couple of heavier ones in the past but need something thats going to hold up well to regular use with a bag too, will this be ok or more suited to occasional use?

I love Rab, but i have no complaints about my Helium II. Helium II is a little bit lighter (6.5ozvs7.0oz) and cheaper (100vs160). I would probably buy the Rab if I had no monetary restriction just cause i love the brand and every Rab product I own, I would in no way change.

GoGoGreenGiantThis is a 3 layer jacket and the hood will be better than the helium's. Weight and price isn't everything - in fact it isn't anything in a survival situation.
This jacket will stand up to repeated abrasion from packwearing and strong winds better than the helium. Nothing against the helium (I have one) but not my first choice for off track or extended wear.

I haven't seen this jacket back up here in over a year, this time around I think I'll pull the trigger. My one big reservation now, howeeve, is that I read on Trailspace Reviews, a site I trust a lot, that the fabric being so lightweight and thin the jacket itself is fragile. If I were to only use this shell in the rain hiking I'm sure that would be fine, but with skiing (love that helmet compatible hood) I'm worried I'd rip the fabrics quickly

Thanks for the recommendation. Why do you say it's nearly perf for touring?

m0arpheusThe Realm is a fully waterproof shell that is almost a combination of a hardshell and softshell. It breathes extremely well (doesn't even include pit zips). It borders on ultralight (less than 11 oz), but is built to be more durable and abrasion resistant than say the OR Helium. It compresses small enough so that one could easily throw it in the bottom of a pack. It only has chest pockets, so no hand pockets to get in the way of a waistbelt. For skiing, the Realm would be great for touring. For the resort, i.e. when weight is less of a concern than durability, a true hardshell would probably be a better choice.

Can someone compare/contrast this jacket to Rab's kinetic plus?

Damn it! I just ordered the outdoor research helium. Should I have got this instead?

Is it? I thought the Helium 2 was 2.5 layer and this is a 3 layer membrane. Plus to my eyes, this looks less crinkly then the Helium. Anyways, might not be worth the extra 60 dollars because as you say, air permeability and wetting out will always be issues with these jackets.

indialogueIf you need lighter weight, and you need a jacket now, go with a 2.5 layer. If you are more interested in longer term durability before washing and raising the DWR with heat or retreating, go with a 3 layer. Technology is progressing well in this area as funds support the R&D. My sense is that it won't be long before someone comes up with a better solution than many DWR's. Rab is well known for quality and support and who know's maybe they have improved DWR. It is always a gamble when you can not return an item due to a failed component of the garment.
