for those confused by the torque stats between the two....
How To Choose Between ES120 And ES121?
If you want faster speed, we suggest you choose ES121.
If you want larger torque, we suggest you choose ES120.

SAVAGEzxDifference is not as big as you'd think. Take a look at this review which measured torque. In summary ES121 has only 25% less torque at almost 2x the speed. So ES121 is indeed upgrade since it has more ball bearings to compensate for axial forces and similar.
I bought this on banggood for twice lower price.. also it broke after a week of use

edvorgMiniware, company which makes these products SainSmart seems to be rebranding, produces good quality products, but you can't find them much lower than what is offered here. Certainly not at half of the price. To me it sounds like you ran into fake or lower quality product impersonating this one.
Here is the diff:
ES120/ES121
Price: $90/$110
No-load speed: About 270 rpm/380 rpm = 4.5 rps / 6.33 rps
Maximum torque: 30 kgf.cm (manual mode) / 1.5kgf.cm
Gearbox: integrated planetary gearbox 1:144 / 1:64
That max torque difference doesn't seem to match the gearboxs, I'm wondering if the ES121's is non-(manual mode).
Anyway, when they manage to add LEDs I'll think about it...
MichaelAtOzActually the big difference between the them is the electronic torque and the free speed.
ES120: 2.8kgf.cm and 270rpm using a 1:144 gear box reduction
ES121: 1.5kgf.cm and 380rpm using a 1:64 gear box reduction
Everything else seems to be identical, both have a maximum rated manual torque of 30kgf.cm and use the same 25,000rpm motor. Like you said, but their electric drive torque numbers being the same made no sense. I went to the Alibaba and bang good to get the numbers from the 'updated' versions of both. The ES120 update is likely to do with a new bearing setup for the locking clutch.
So the ES121 is faster, but lower-torque, due to the lower gear reduction ratio. Anyone know what the difference between the ES121 (sold here) and the ES121V (available from SainSmart) is?
