I have my fair share of expensive jeans (a few pair of BKE etc) and I am not a fan of flashy "Mexican" jeans with jewels on the pockets and such. But can someone tell me why they would spend $120 on some basic ass high riding jeans? These seem marketed to hipsters who just want to say they spend $120 on jeans because they are "better."

treahIf you think BKE jeans are expensive, they're only mid range of the spectrum. These are pretty good at $120 if you're talking about raw and selvedge jeans. There are many others that can run $300+

treahIt sounds like you're new to the world of raw denim - welcome! Be warned that it can be addictive....
First of, these jeans ARE better, not just "better". They are made by a single artisan in LA out of high-end raw selvage denim. Here's something that I posted on a raw denim drop before on this topic:
Massdrop is an online community of enthusiasts, and there are many people - on Massdrop and beyond - that are very passionate about raw denim. There are several huge websites devoted solely to this topic, and there are plenty of people out there that will happily spend several hundreds of dollars for a pair that they will wear for years.
Raw denim isn't for everyone, but that doesn't mean that anything over $100 is a bad deal. Some people spend hundreds on mechanical keyboards and headphones here, and although I don't understand it, I understand their passion for the product. I'd encourage you to learn more about this product and raw denim in general; there are many resources that will help explain why people are so passionate about it. Here are just a couple:

danielkwongSo $70 to 170$ arent expensive jeans? So you have yet to give any reasonable answer to my question. So far from what ive seen people just really like the way the jeans fade. I also see that some pairs already form holes after only 2 years. http://www.rawrdenim.com/2015/05/fade-friday-samurai-jeans-so510xx-2-years-1-wash/ I do all sorts of work in my jeans both cheap and my BKE's. My first pair still took two years to have holes form on the knees which i def washed more then "twice", like once a week. If i paid double for jeans and only have them last the same amount of time thats a rip off. Now I will say the feel of the BKE jeans are 100x better then my cheap 20-40$ jeans. That is kinda my point the looks and fit of the bke jeans I wear are great, and the look and fit (not feel) of this jeans look like walmart jeans that will bleed color all over you once they get wet and will not move at all. So instead of talking about price how about you tell me why you are willing to spend this much on jeans like this, at least IanAnderson provided links be even he doesnt give his reasons why its worth it but does give links.
I do understand passions, I just bought a spec'd out SC nomad bicycle (6,800$) and not everyone can understand why until i explain. Thats why Im asking.

treahPrice is a subjective issue. What someone may view as expensive may not be to someone else. I ride bikes too, so I can see how bike will cost $6,800. Depending on the user, that may be affordable, or it may be expensive.
Selvedge jeans are made generally on small denim looms which allow for better quality control. Those Samurai jeans you posted had 2 years of wear. Thats 2 years of constant wearing, ,every single day. I have various jeans that range in prices, and I could easily say that some of my cheaper or midrange stuff wouldnt be able to tolerate the same amount of abuse as some of my more expensive stuff. It also depends on the weight of the demin and the wearer. I use my jeans for everything, regardless of the price of the jean. So it's not unheard of for me to wear a pair of $300 dollar jeans to rock climb. To those who are into raw demin, these holes or fades are what define our demin. What something is worth is always going to be subjective. It's worth it for me to buy a high quality pair of jeans, even if it means thee price may be 10x more that a pair or levis (Granted Levis's LVC line is pretty damn good too).
Other places too besides the links Ian posted. Superfuture is a pretty large community that contains tons of people who are also into raw denim.

treahgenerally, raw denim (this drop and brands similar to it) tend to have better fits, more options, and feel better. I cannot attest to this particular brand's quality as I do not own a pair of red cotton denim, but I have owned 4 other pairs of raw denim (ranging from levi stf to japan bluexblue owl collab) and the process is so much more than just fit/feel. Your denim becomes a "second skin" of sorts, no matter the fit, that reflects your lifestyle: knee fades at your knee height, whiskering/honey combing at your specific bends, pocket fades that reflect your EDC, not a reflection of what a factory mannequin can create. The price may seem steep when you first venture into raw denim, but so would a $6.8K bicycle to a cyclist who was content with walmart bikes. If this particular brand is too expensive, good "starting" brands are Levi's 501 STF and Unbranded, that can offer a chance to test the waters on raw denim
