Can anyone compare these to Uniqlo's selvedge? I have a pair I bought for $40, it's already been about five months of regular use without washing and still seems strong to me. Will wash them in Feb I think. Since these aren't 16.5oz, what's the difference? The fact that these are made in the USA by hand?
Also, Uniqlo had a limited edition line, "pure blue Japan", whose selvedge offerings were 16.5oz I believe, at about $60 a pair.
/sincerely curious

payodpandaWhat in particular do you want compared? In terms of material and construction quality, these are much, much better. This is denim from a highly regarded mill, made in the USA by a single artisan. Uniqlo's denim is mass-produced in Bangladesh. There's really no comparison, as they are on opposite sides of the spectrum.
It's true that the denim weight is different going off what you say, but that has no direct correlation to quality.
As for fit, I can't really compare the two as I have never owned Uniqlo denim.

payodpandaFor the money, some may say that Uniqlo's denim is better. However, I spent some time with both jeans and I think that the Red Cotton is better in almost all other regards. For me, the fit was better for Red Cotton but everybody will have a different experience for fit. I personally preferred Red Cotton's taper past the knee versus Uniqlo, which had a straight leg all the way through. The leg opening for Red Cotton was 7.75" versus 8.25" on Uniqlo. The denim feel on Uniqlo is very soft and almost flimsy. It feels similar to regular denim. Uniqlo's denim weight is 13.5 oz according to their website while Red Cotton is 12.5 oz. These are pretty similar and, as Ian mentioned, denim weight doesn't necessarily directly correlate to quality.

IanAndersonThanks for the reply. About denim weight, I did not mean to say that uniqlo is 16.5oz. I just meant that since these aren't 16.5 these are the same weight as the uniqlo jeans. So yes construction quality and durability was what I wanted to compare. I think I'll pass for now, I want to see how well the uniqlo pair lasts. I wear it quite extensively and I don't really notice much wear. The distress patterns have started forming too now, I want to see how these wash and bleed.

ChristopherJThanks for the reply. Yes I do prefer a slightly slimmer silhouette myself, but these are more than $100 more than the Uniqlo pairs. I can't justify the investment for my individual case.
Btw I don't know if you guys remember me from other forums but I've been going complaining about a lot of my orders on the forums. Just wanted to say that eventually things have turned out nice and although massdrop support was slow, admittedly due to high volumes after Christmas, my issues were resolved. So, +1 for support.
