I want to be in on this, but after doing some research I think I would need to get a CS degree if I ever wanted to program this thing properly. I don't understand how to program layers properly even with Keyboard Layout Editor and tkg.io . Looks like I would actually need to code some things manually to use this properly. Super confused right now.

DuaneBarryI'm absolutly on your side with this one!
This ain't Geekhack or other websites where "only" the geeks and nerds are hanging around. MD might have started as a tip/place for people like this, but by now the people coming here are widely spread regarding knowledge, whatever ....
Something like this, from the manual:
2. Make Keymap To reflash a keymap, first you should make your keymap. This is similar to other keyboards which using TKG solution. Please refer to some documents of TMK and TKG for more details.
isn't very welcoming for newbies, and relying on the community only (again), well, this could/should be handled better!
Time to step up/evolve or mark drops like this: Nerd level xy recommended :)
