I just checked with MD support... it looks like the Zealio switches included in this buy are plate-mounted. Seems odd... the photo on the Description page shows the PCB supporting PCB-mounted switches. Those are always better in my experience, whenever a keyboard and plate supports that.
PacwageoDo you recommend getting the Zealios elsewhere then? I was excited about those, but I haven't built a kit board yet. How are they different, and why are the PCB mounted versions better? Just curious. thanks.
Morgio_ZoroderIf I'm correct and this PCB supports PCB-mounted switches, then yes, I would recommend getting the PCB mounted Zealios. I've found that PCB mounted switches feel a little more stable when combined with a plate. PCB switches have two plastic legs on them that snap on to the actual PCB... helping secure the switch to the board where the solder points are. This reduces switch wobble while typing. I built a Sprit 60 last year that had a setup like this and it was one of the best feeling Cherry keyboards I've typed on.
Here's a good picture showing the difference between plate mount and PCB mount:

Usually PCB mounted keyboards do not have a plate... but if you have both a plate and a PCB mounted switch you get double the stability and support.
PacwageoEven if the PCB doesn't support PCB-mounted switches - and the image of the PCB in the description doesn't appear to - it's always a good idea to get PCB mounted switches anyway and just clip the legs off. This gives you more options for the switches if you decide not to use them with this project.
Fun fact: Both of the boards I've gotten that "support" PCB-mounted switches didn't really. The stabilizing leg holes for each switch were too small and I had to clip anyway.
XyverzTo me the PCB in the description looks like it supports PCB mount switches. I've assembled 6 boards (working on 7th), and all of them support PCB mount switches though all of them have plates.. funny that they'd put holes too small in yours... who were the PCB designers?
YanboWu@YanboWu, may i ask again: "I still have another question left: "You can also add a set of standard layout Blank or laser-etched Front-Printed PBT keycaps (Gray) in Cherry profile."
20 bucks isn't that much for that option and might be worthwhile, but how are the Front-Printed PBT keycaps are going to look like/work at the "f-row cluster" in regards of profile, will they match the main cluster or will they all be R1 profile?
This is somehow important for the buy or not to buy question!"
Ty
YanboWuSo, again, by "Cherry profile" do you really mean "Step-Sculpture 2"? And should we also assume the caps will only support the layout on the left under "Potential Layouts"?
