New to the audiophile scene! Is this worth buying or should I get shure se215? Or are there other ones in this price range which you would recommend?

abhixecSE215 is quite coloured and is a u/v shape. It's pretty meh and not great bang for buck. This is quite new and so I wouldn't recommend it purely because I have no idea about it

abhixecif you want bang for the buck start with tin t2's or blon 03's i'm currently testing these vs Moondrop Starfields but I can add things like Legacy 3's and Shure Tapes if you are willing to wait for burn in and then testing

abhixecI just received the Springs and have had the SE215 for a while. Now I’ve only listened to the Springs one day but I can tell you at a minimum I know I like them more than the SE215’s. The SE215’s have a rather boring sound to me. I tend to use them to listen to only talk stuff. I don’t really use them for music. One of the earlier comments adequately describes my feelings on Shure’s SE 215... they are meh. I used to have the T4’s. Although I really enjoyed the sound, I found them uncomfortable so I gave them to a friend. I think I’m the only person that thought they were uncomfortable .. just keep that in mind. Lol So far.. these Spring’s have a fun sound signature and super comfortable. My ears prob lean towards smaller but they slide into my ears as if made for them. Hope you find something you enjoy!

EdgeRunnerDid you buy from this drop? or previous drop or elsewhere? The ship date says September 17th wondering if the 20$ saving is worth a month long wait.

abhixecThat’s a fairly subjective question. For me I had something else that was occupying my time so I did not dwell on waiting for the Springs. I purchased on July 7 and didn’t receive till August 11. .. a little over a month. When the Springs appeared again on Drop it occurred to me that I thought I had purchased them and hadn’t received. It was then I checked my transactions. Since I had something to divert my attention, the wait wasn’t bad. But given the opposite situation I probably would have had ants in my pants.  In college had you asked me the question I would have stated I waited for any and every savings I could receive because I had so little money. Now it really depends on my cash flow and how bad I really want whatever I am purchasing. I lean towards just waiting to get the savings. But it is perfectly acceptable to have expectations that when you put money down on a product, that it will be shipped promptly. Drop tends to not be that way tho. Different type of retail experience. Either way you choose, it is right for you. If you do wait, consider the savings as a discount on your next audio purchase. Maybe that will help get through the weeks. But..if you are really dying to get a new IEM in your hands, Drop isn’t the right place to make your purchase. Regardless.. do what feels right to you.  ( I am sorry this is so long. It occurred to me I can’t seem to write a response in a couple of sentences. Lol )

abhixecif you don't want to wait as long starfields and legacy 3's should be in stock on amazon they are solid iem's and have a lot more reviews/popularity than the springs

quicklytoo4Even if these have some issues, they're much better than the Starfields, Tapes, and Legacy 3's. @EdgeRunner @abhixec I'd check out the Shozy Rouge in this price range if you want more of a all-rounder, or see if you can find a used Kanas Pro. Under $200 those would be my picks. Cheers.

zep483Are the Black KXXX that were listed not long ago the same as the Kansas Pro but with different shells? I’ve been tempted to get one of those. Legacy 3 I had for a very short time and liked a good but think I like the Springs better. It could be that the fit on the Springs are near perfect for me. But I also like the sound signature a good bit. The tapes.. I keep tossing them around. Been on the fence for some time and have yet decided to give them a whirl. It seems people either love or hate them, no middle ground. I haven’t read much about the Shozy Rouge but will now . I have the Shozy Neo CP and enjoy them. The are good all around earphones. Nothing spectular tho nothing terrible either. You provided excellent suggestions.

EdgeRunnerno, kxxs seem to be closer to the starfield than anything else based on reports. like an upgrade to the starfield, but not a kxxs or a kanas pro. I have not heard them myself yet, or the neo cp- i've been wanting to get my hands on one of those.

zep483I will disagree that they are better, in this price range everything is "side grades" or trade offs I love springs for relaxed/chill music but they lack anything that makes you want to dance to the music you are listening to at least compared to Starfields/L3's/Tapes

EdgeRunnerblack version is drops exclusive normal is silver some people say they are Starfields cranked to 11 some people say they sound the same from what I've seen it seems to be a 50/50 split in reviews

quicklytoo4Thanks for the info and also a thanks to @zep483. The tapes are a pair that I keep walking around but have yet to purchase. The price really isn’t a factor . But I have been more hesitant on them than any pair I have looked at and considered purchasing. Not sure why but I may just go ahead and purchase the tapes so I can listen to them and understand what people are saying about them. Thanks again!

EdgeRunnertapes are kinda in a odd position super clean/detailed but also has more low end than actual electrostatics so its not boring I think the highs can be a bit too sharp for certain songs (at least off a clean dac into a 789 setup)

quicklytoo4The tapes definitely sound interesting and it so happens I’m leaning towards purchasing the 789 at the moment. I have wobbled here and there for over a month researching a few amps. But about to make the plunge soon. Thanks again for info.

EdgeRunnerThe tapes are super terrible. Run away, run very far away... this quickly guy has no clue obviously. Also Legacy 3 is just hype. Check out this blog and YouTube; pretty much completely agree with this guy. He's a character, but I became an instant subscriber. One of the few reviewers I trust. There are articles about the tapes, legacy 3, the starfields, and some of these others we're talking about. https://www.intoitreviews.com/

EdgeRunnerWould be my endgame for clean output if drop would just make ANOTHER MATCHING FORMFACTOR DAC LIKE THE AIRIST R2R currently have a SU8 slapped on top of my drop stack looks so lost up there and literally tries to jump off whenever I plug/unplug things lol Thing has so much power that on medium gain I've never had to go above 1/3 on balanced and around half on se

zep483soooo even though they are all the same price there is one that if you don't buy it you are deaf? people have different likes/dislikes that's why I say they are side grades there isn't one to rule them all in a set price range, whenever I review things I try to find what they are best for and compare others I have experienced personally or that have raving reviews with many people agreeing on it's strong points, whatever audio setup you use and whatever music you listen to like many things is a preference, don't say other people don't know what they're talking about if you disagree make an argument :)

zep483Thanks for the info @zep483! Late last night, I did some more looking at info on the Tapes and decided they were not for me. The conversation about differences in hearing made me laugh. Have a friend who is a Bose diehard. I will admit that I had a pair of Bose noise cancelling headphones for work but replaced with Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones when they came out.. Really tho... .. Bose just hasn’t interested me. I hear too much garbled tones. I did let my friend exhaust his Bose sellathon. . .. Lol It was all good. Again, thanks for your info. I do appreciate your input.

quicklytoo4Thanks for info on that. I was wondering if they ever had an intended DAC match. I know not necessary; was more curious. I have seen the smaller DACs sitting atop the 789 so I knew what you meant about something looking lost on top of the 789. Lol thanks again!

EdgeRunnerwhen they finished the THX ONE there was a poll started about drop making a new dac and a lot of people seemed to want a upgrade over the drop x grace dac so maybe we will get it in a year or 2 :)

quicklytoo4The THX One has been in my mix of thoughts as I considered the 789. I thought about just waiting but next year seems so far off. I am actually more interested in that unit than 789. If the THX One was not ever started I would have already purchased the 789. With it sitting there it has tripped me up. There is no DAC that just jumps out there to me ( within my price range.. lol. ) I would prefer to stay around 600 or so for both amp and DAC. Do you have any DAC recommendations? And are you getting the THX One?

EdgeRunnerif you get a THX ONE the Drop X Grace standard dac is fine if you don't want any extra features or want to save a few bucks since you don't need balanced if you don't want/need many features there are a lot of good ~$150 dacs Gashelli Labs comes to mind ~$250 there are things like the Aune X8 which has the swappable opamp for adding some flavor to the sound or if you want more features things like the SU8 or topping DS50 ~$400 topping has a solid combo dac amp the DX7 Personally my main setup is SU8 balanced into my 789 which rocks my Sundaras with my music setup being fiio E10k into a CTH Tube Hybrid then into my 789 thought about getting a ONE but technically being a downgrade from a 789 theonly thing I would use it for is my living room soundbar but using my old Mayflower Objective 2 to power that is fine, maybe if/when I get into speakers LOL currently looking at "warmer" solid state amps like the Aune x8 or the Drop Liquid X so I don't need a elaborate setup for music on my Sundaras was looking at a rebel amp but $500 for just an amp X.X Edit fixed X1's to be X8's

quicklytoo4Gosh thanks for all the info. I need to go through it more detail so I can note some of your ideas that I really liked. I appreciate the time you spent typing this. I’ll probably be back asking yet another question after I have time to really sort through your suggestions. A few things with work picked up and is taking a lot of my time. Hope to be finished today or by this weekend.
