Can anyone clarify the performance (duration, output, etc.) differences between 14500 batteries with differing specs? For example, they appear to range between 600mAh and 2000mAh, but many of the 1600mAh ones say 1.5v instead of 3.7v. Also some have circuit protection while others don't. How important is circuit protection, and what impact does this have on light output and battery time? Most seem to be no-name Chinese batteries. Are there any specific brands that stand out as being more dependable, or are they all much the same?

inventbotIn addition, others have built-in micro USB ports which appeal to me, as I will be able to use them with the solar charger I got here on MD. Does this feature tend to come with a big reduction in battery time?

inventbot14500 Li-ion battery 3.7V (4.2V full), most are 700-800 mAh. (1600mAh 14500 is fake, or over-rated) Rechargeable Eneloop AA is 1.2V, 1900-2200 mAh,
Circuit protection is important, especially for Li-ions, if someone forgets to turn off the light, the battery will keep draining, maybe to 0V, and dead. Suggested 14500 battery: keeppower, efest, xtar.
Built-in USB battery, is usually longer. An independent charger is more suggested. Some chargers can be powered by USB as well, then you can use solar charger too. Single bay charger is small. They usually have more accurate charging.

ReyLightThank you. I have Eneloops but I find that those and non-rechargable AAs tend to cut out a lot in the lights I have, as if their output is borderline not enough to keep the current flowing through the LED. The light is also a lot dimmer, as would be expected.
