figured I'd drop this here - New to the pocket knife game. I've got a D2 kershaw, an S110V spyderco, and a few Chinese "marked S30v for better resell" so probably alphabet soup (a couple of which came wicked sharp) knives that I got to practice sharpening/honing on. Right now I've got a set of DMT dia-sharp credit card things. I restore fountain pens and I've also got a surgical Arkansas stone for nib work. I guessing this is not the system I want.... or is it? I've been looking at the spyderco options, but they're a tad pricey. Opinions vary pretty widely in the research I've been doing, so I thought I'd ask the friendly massdrop mob. What about a strop? Thanks!

UsergradeIf you want an inexpensive natural stone set to get you rolling, this should do the trick. The two-stone set is probably sufficient, if you've already got a Surgical Black stone. The "hard black" stone in the three-stone set, here, is exactly the same as "surgical" black; they're also sometimes called "true black", "true hard", or "translucent", depending on colour. All of those are the same grade. The three-stone set comes with slightly larger stones, which is a bit nicer. One of the previous purchasers mentioned the stones being not-so-flat... that would be my only concern with this buy. Probably wouldn't matter for most pocket knives, but more sensitive blades (fine kitchen knives, razors) really wouldn't appreciate it.
