The folks at RH Preyda know their way around sharpening stones. In fact, they quarry an abundance of 100-percent natural Arkansas stones by hand to ensure it meets their—and your—high standards. We’ve worked with RH Preyda to create this Massdrop-exclusive kit. The kit includes three Arkansas stones: a soft stone (400–600 grit), a hard white stone (800–1,000 grit), and a hard black stone (2,000–3,000 grit). Also included is a 3-ounce bottle of honing oil and a nonslip base to secure each stone. To use a stone, simply add four to five drops of oil, align your blade at a 15- to 20-degree angle, stroke the blade three to 10 times, reverse the blade, and repeat the process. In our kit, the stones are a little larger than usual to make things even easier.
Founded in Chicago in 2013, RH Preyda satisfies an industry need for hand-crafted sharpening stones with a range of applications. Quarried by hand in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas, each of its stones is made from 100-percent Novaculite—a material known for its density and unique siliceous structure. Since Novaculite’s prehistoric discovery, it’s been used to fashion arrows and axes, and today is used to make high-quality sharpening stones suitable for virtually any blade-edged tool.
