I'm just wondering, what exactly makes these notepads so great?
I realise that I must not be the target demographic for these because I fail to see how a simple notepad is worth $9/ea (@ msrp), particularly when I could pick-up a 12-pack of notepads for $6 total down the street.

brycied00dThe paper is light years better than what you will find in most any office supply store. Think of it like this: if you buy an exotic sports car, you aren't putting bargain price tires on it. This paper would offer that premium smooth ride and high-end performance. Fountain pens and wet rollerballs would be the prime audience for this: no feathering, no bleedthrough, no resistance from the paper.

brycied00dThe Rhodia site lists all the qualities that make them better than your average notepad.

But, yeah, they can take a good beating because of the covers and binding, while also having the benefit of folding back like a spiral bound notepad without the annoying spirals. It also uses nice smooth paper to write/draw on that can hold up to heavier inks better than your average paper. It's like buying a nice pen vs a 20 pack of Bics, They do the same thing as cheaper stuff, but the experience is better, which really goes for 90% of stuff on massdrop. They're my notepad of choice.

brycied00dYou are paying for high quality paper that will not feather, bleed through, or show through even with the heaviest wet ink pens. These are designed to be used with fountain pen and other wet inks, and will highlight the sheen and shading if the ink has those properties. Rhodia paper is also very smooth and well suited to handle the nibs on fountain pens. Your typical office notepad paper will do none of this, and will likely be unusable with pens using wet inks.
