This is great for street photography as it has a snap focus that can be preset. Candid shots are great if you can get up your courage to get in close and take the shot. The fact is it is small enough to be unobtrusive. Subject don't seem to care as opposed to putting a I've had a great time with my copy this last year in the Boston, Cape Cod, Maine and Fargo. It is definitely going to Vancouver with me.
If your all about the zoom then of course this camera will not your needs. But there is something about going zoom less that is addictive as it makes you work harder to get the shot from a perspective zooms won't give you.
I've also used it, with a rather huge Ricoh external flash (compared to the camera itself), that does a great job at events as it forces you to get in close. Granted it is a bit top heavy in this configuration. Basically I hold the flash by the neck with my hand a hit the shutter button with my right hand (with wrist strap for safety.
There is a Ricoh adapter and snap on lens that turns this lens into an even wider lens.
The pictures are great, and if you can get over that it is not a zoom lens you are going to be in for a great time using this camera. Just use "sneaker" zoom ;) Google it an you will find some hard core fans (me among them). The DPReview site has a good review, and the Ricoh forum is pretty lively.
Note there is a newer model out that has Wifi. But this earlier version is great and most fans have not felt the need to upgrade.
