Based on Rider Boot Co.’s classic Chelsea silhouette, these boots stand out for their leather: reverse kudu from England’s Charles F. Stead, one of the most respected suede tanners in the world. The kudu leather, from an antelope native to southern Africa, exhibits a strikingly soft touch on the reverse side while maintaining a high degree of strength. This is especially true when paired with Stead’s “Janus” tannage, which maximizes the leather’s natural mellowness. Fully leather lined with a Rapid construction, a storm welt, and a Sestriere sole and heel, these boots are built on Rider’s 60 last: a fairly round-toed last made deeper to accommodate removable insoles and orthotics. Every pair is made in Italy.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of color: cigar or snuff. Both come in full and half sizes from 8 to 12, plus 13 and 14, with a D width. Ron Rider Co. recommends going true to size. For an in-depth look at the man behind the boots, check out our profile on Ron Rider.
