Before I forget to ask again, will these boots need special looking-after? Asking cause these aren't smooth leather shoes, and will probably see a lot of outdoor activity. Should these be treated like suede? Nubuck? Grain leather? Smooth leather? Sorry, I've only ever owned smooth leather (or grain-embossed) shoes.

payodpandaThey're to be treated just like suede. They have a very short nap to them for them being rough outs.
payodpandaI have the brown and when I first spoke to Ron, he said he hadn't treated his in 4 years and they were doing fine. This does not seem strange because these are veg tan leathers that absorb the oils you secrete a lot better than chrome tan or oil tan leathers and are in a sense, self conditioning with enough use...sort of.
I personally spray a tiny bit of lexol on a brush and quickly brush the boots with it.

shootsfilmwithbulletWell that's good to know. Thanks! Is the leather waterproofed or do we waterproof it?
payodpandacontentious topic. This particular leather is very water resilient and I wouldn't touch it. You can use a suede spray if you want but I like accumulating patina. The only way to waterproof it would be to drench the whole thing in obenaufs or something which would ruin all the beautiful color variation within the leather.

shootsfilmwithbulletAh. I was thinking more along the lines of the Colonil waterproofing spray. I use that for my smooth leather products and it doesn't change the look at all. But then again, I don't have any experience whatsoever outside of smooth leather.
