tskillerthere's almost certainly a zero percent chance that this blade is even anything like the last drop of it (and I know the comment is from 2018, but the last one was farther from the legit one from that drop....so this one is probably nothing like whatever drop this one is mentioning, which blows...) the last one was like $300+ and actually had a nice blade and the legitimate Rike logo and colorways that were like shade-shifting colors of purple/blue/red(ish), gold/blue, green/blueish-purple, stonewashed, an M390 blade and not the SV35N crap and a design that I'm guessing (and I literally just took a super quick glance before heading straight here to the discussion before considering taking ANY of the specs info on here with more than the tiniest grain of salt - seeing as the last "rike" drop they had on here in general literally had the HX Outdoor logo on it...they didn't even go as far as to cheaply cover up the fact that they had photos of a knife that wasn't even technically a real rike, but a same-but-different - half the price - knife that's made by rike for the HX or HK (can't even remember..) Outdoor company that they make basically identical knives for....you really need to put in your due diligence on here these days if you're considering spending anything over $50-$100 on a blade unfortunately, bc the really false + deceptive advertising for knives like Rike (which I've really wanted one for a long time, but I'm not about to get suckered into buying a one-off joke/fake/who even knows at this point that massdrop half-assed) all bc Rike's knives are all shiny + fancy, so they reupdate these drops even more frequently but only getting further away from the actual product every time...it's really annoying and getting super old.

mikethewrapperDamn, really? If they're really doing this, they should stop. Drop is pretty cavalier about the laws that govern everything they do. Their attitude about stuff like this is cancerous and they should excise the source of it before it kills the entire company. They evidently have coasted this far but anyone who can take a screenshot can take them to court, and all the sock puppets and astroturfing and beta minus executive bullshit in the world won't keep them from receiving a punitive fine and some very bad publicity once that happens, let alone anything else the law may discover in that process that they are currently doing, and should not be so doing. Whoever put Drop on this path more or less picked them up and threw them. They seem to think they're flying at the moment. Protip: flying and being thrown feel exactly the same, until the end.

reswrightWell I don't think going to court over a shitty purchase would be worth the legal fees, just for one; but additionally, if you were to take a screenshot of what you believe might potentially be some type of scam, whether it be that they're advertising it falsely from what they claim to presenting pictures of a different knife...you'd then officially be the one liable, and then any sort of legitimacy that your argument had in a court of law is gone, since you'd be admitting to knowingly purchasing something you were pretty sure that you shouldn't have...but that's not so much what I'm upset about... It's mainly been with the blades that they do this - specifically Rike. Thankfully, I always go straight to the discussions on every product on this site because of this exact reason...And as a result, I got me a nice HX Outdoors knife for their last "Rike" drop that I had mentioned before where they straight up showed pics of the HX Outdooors knife; however, since I was made aware by checking the discussion area, I went and bought mine on FastTech for over half the price drop was offering (the link here has it shown as around what md was offering it for, but I think that's because it just happened to be on sale at the time.....the exact same time that massdrop had a sale on the "Rike" that they were selling...funny coincidence, huh? --you can get the silver version for the price I got my blackwashed though...pretty cool knife, it's just the exact same thing as the Rike it corresponds with with the exception of like one or two super tiny details that you honestly wouldn't even notice...) https://www.fasttech.com/p/7202000 But now they're doing Rike knives with cheaper blade materials, which was one of the things that made Rike seem super cool to me in the first place - they were craaazy cool looking knives that were also very practical because they weren't just all show and no go, basically...but now there just so happens to be a Rike knife - that I've seen 2-3 times on here before - that happens to be within my price range all of a sudden...when there hasn't ever been one in my comfortable spending range before?? Yeah, fishy. + quite obviously also continuing their trend of unethical sales (again, at least within the blades department, that's where I've noticed it become really bad...). So yeah, if this knife as it is does exist elsewhere, but with the cooler, actual colors that Rike usually offers like the gold/blue and others, then I'll hopefully track it down + buy it there, because this is going to be just a mess of things thrown together, which I imagine drop is just getting away with by calling it a "drop exclusive" aka just a bunch of random shit applied to a legitimate blade-maker's name like a Mr. Potato-head toy in order to boost margins...so meh. Tired of ranting, just hope I was able to get thru to people to be careful when buying blades specifically here on drop...bc it's gone from eh to bad, to worse, to what even is this...??

mikethewrapperThere's no liability involved in reporting false advertising. Just the hassle of having to do it. You don't take on any form of risk by reporting, and once you're done, you're done. You go on about your way and never have to mess with it again. https://www.wikihow.com/Report-False-Advertising Like, I'm not gonna wander the earth suing people about stuff like this either. My life is too short. But anyone can report false adverting and I wish more people would do so, because it is their right, it works like a charm and does put an end to duplicitious stuff like you're discussing. It doesn't seem like just noticing it and pointing it out has been moving the needle, does it?

mikethewrapperAnyway, what you're discussing sounds a lot like ghost shift knives that are being produced illicitly in the factory Rike uses for manufacture -- people might be getting together after their official work shift ends and throwing together models with no QC and with cheaper material, and putting the brand name on it. Or they might be taking the knives from one production run -- the HX outdoor line -- and putting those 'Rikeknife' engravings on them and doing a deal with Massdrop or a middleman. This is an endemic problem with Chinese knives - and the higher the quality of the knife, the more pressure there is to run a ghost shift to make knockoffs, except with an accurate label. People look around for deals on knives from a Chinese manufacturer and they sure do find people who are willing to cut them a deal. Sometimes, this is why.

reswrightWell no so the guy who makes Rike Knives (I believe it's just one person, hence why they're so expensive and fancy and blah blah) outsources his designs/materials/skills to HX Outdoors (and I think one other also, but I can't verify that for sure..). So he makes a solid amount of the HX Outdoor line of knife products as is...He's even stated that's true on his instagram page on a handful of occasions....so I'm fine with the fact that I went out and bought an HX Outdoors knife from a different seller when I saw that they were posting a "Rike" knife here on MD that was the equivalent model as the HX Outdoors one that I ended up ordering...thing is though, MD's pictures (like, ALL of the pictures, not just one or two slip-ups) were of the HX Outdoor knife...yet it was priced at the same price as the Rike, and it said - in the title/description/checkout/everywhere you could find a brand name listed - "Rike _______"....so it's Massdrop that's doing the false advertising of (specifically from what I've noticed) Rike knives, whether it be the materials in the knife build, the origin, all the way down to the literal knife itself being entirely different and not even coming with "Rike" written anywhere on it except for the receipt...so it's just fucking ridiculous..because I've seen it with other knives too, where it's just a certain knife but made with a slightly different steel or other materials used in the actual official knife you'd find elsewhere, or whatever the case may be...but I see it solely within the Knives community...so you just gotta do your due diligence and be thoroughly prepared to search the internet whenever they post something in the Knives community that seems too good to be true. Because fact of the matter is, it most likely isn't true. So they just have to do something about it...bc *this* Rike knife last time around was considerably more expensive, and as I've mentioned before, I know this because Rike knives have been out of my price range on every occasion when they've dropped on this site....but then this one just so happened to fall within my budget...it's one of those simple things that I would have certainly remembered...I have notifications/reminders set up for all of their products that are on MD, I check to see if they are available for cheaper elsewhere online, etc....so I'm just saying that Massdrop is shady about this shit. It's not Rike/HX Outdoors...they're very open + transparent about the fact that HX Outdoors knives are manufactured by Rike Knives....so MD should be too...

OmniseedAh... You mentioned it before but I didn't catch that it was a HX Outdoor model. Kept looking for it as a Rike at Ketuo and at Chicago Knife Works. Will keep an eye out!

reswrightThe handle feels way better than you would think from photos, mainly because the milling is so nice, and the clip could use a little bending to lighten it up, the grind I'd a bit thick, but holy crap is mine well made and fun to play with. It's solid but feels really lean and lively in the hand. I bet having a hollow compound grind done to it behind the tip grind would rock

reswrightfasttech suuucks- I actually ordered the HX Outdoor "budget thor 3" in the past from them (I'm def gonna keep using that nickname for it lol), and it was the transaction from hell...said it would arrive in 15 days, after 15 days: nothing. 30 days, nothing. 45 days, nothing. Tracking info was just stuck on "received by US postal carrier" or something like that, and when I reached out for a refund after what eventually was nearly 6 months total they simply would not admit guilt that the package never arriving was on them. It was absolutely ridiculous; I'd been speaking with cust service basically since 30 days had passed and it hadn't made it...they ultimately "refunded" me, but I had to pay for shipping (both ways to/from China) and like a $45 re-stocking fee. I was absolutely furious....they're a fucking joooke and you should literally never order a thing from them, bc if it makes it then cool w/e that's great but if you ever have to deal with their customer service you're going to go through the better half of a year arguing back and forth with somebody who's so unhelpful + clueless they may as well be from another planet. -2 out of 5 stars. hahah
