I have the XTD 5.1 Analog headset for the true surround and I pretty much love it. Especially since it's not painful like the old model's headband was. After trying several others after the old one and before the new one, I'm pretty sure it's the best true surround sound headset there is. Best directionality and best audio quality for a true surround sound headset. Now, I haven't actually tried the USB version of the XTD and I got the analog version because strangely I didn't like the way most of the USB surround headsets sounded with a bunch of strange side effects. And I knew I liked the old analog Kave headset. I love it for gaming, especially competitive multiplayer. Music is a mixed bag of ok to... kind of odd, favoring heavy bass rock music and deeper voices. Note that I don't use the mic on the XTD headset. The old mic wasn't so great and I'd assume this one is about the same, but I'm not sure. As for stereo, that would be a different experience on the stereo headset versus the 5.1 headset because of the different driver sizes. I can't really say how good the stereo headset would sound, but... I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a better sounding stereo headset from a different company, particularly for music. But if you want amazing directionality in games with pinpoint accuracy, yes better than virtual surround/stereo, then the 5.1 headset is the way to go. Analog particularly. Note that if this stereo headset is USB (I'm not sure what it is, but it doesn't state analog like the 5.1 analog does), then I'd worry about it a little bit. For some reason all the (surround sound) USB headsets I ever tried all sounded significantly tin-canny while the Kave analog did not comparatively. USB is also more likely to have electromagnetic interference issues. Supposedly they tried to fight that with the in-line box, but I'm not so sure. Again, if you're going for the 5.1 analog headset, which I'm sure will show up here soon, then definitely get it for gaming. Stereo USB, I'm not as sure, but it might still turn out good.

Jgr9If you don't know it yet, 5.1 is a gimmick for headphones.
5.1 makes sense for speakers, they're placed further away from eachother and arranged somewhat circular around you to give the immersion. However, on headphones your speakers are placed like what, a few centimeters away from your ear? Do you really think 5 small drivers are better than 1 big driver in that scenario?
Here's another good comparison from reddit: Surround headphones that actually have 7.1 speakers in them are a bad idea. You're getting 7 tiny, earbud-sized+ drivers in your ears vs. 2 large drivers that would give better sound (would you rather listen to music with your friends by turning up the volume on a pair of earbuds laying on the table, or a proper speaker dock?).
