The size problem sure rings a bell. Back in my AF days, 70's and 80's, my best size for a field jacket was medium/short. I was 6'0"/170 and normally a large in anything fit well. I have no idea who made the field jacket, but they were sturdy and lasted. Yes, they lasted, but you can't have too many field jackets in your closet ; ). Field jacket with liner, watch cap, work gloves with inserts, and rubber buckle up arctics over combat boots got me through two tours in Korea and one tour in Iceland. Since it got a hell of a lot colder in Korea, sometimes thermal underwear was required.
