My issue with this jacket is the noise it makes while moving around, it is kinda like a crunching sound (like plastic), almost like wearing a garbage bag, real M-65 Field jackets I have owned are fairley silent... As for sizing, I usually wear a med. this is what I ordered and would probably reorder the same.

Thanks, It is just that my 20 year old Tiger Stripe M-65 is getting a bit tired (fading out) and I am use to a quiet jacket, with that in mind, I may wait until I am more disparate...

Who can explain that extra bit of triangular "flap-age" at the cuff? It's more visible in the photo of the black version, but curiously tucked under in shots of the other colors. I ask because I own an M-65, and have never been able to figure that bits use/purpose/function. I can tell you it's annoying as hell--you have to tuck it under again each time your put the jacket on, and your will push it right back out (and leave it flapping in the breeze), each time you run your arm through the sleeve again. Yes, one could modify it and be done with the issue, but I don't imagine it was put there on a whim. Anyone...anyone?

Well now that makes sense! I'm sure it was handy to have when needed. And you're right about the flap in these; it tends to fall back down, out of the cuff and get in the way/look odd against your hand. Appreciate the info!

That's a good answer, too! I suppose it would deflect runoff, snow, and just debris in general from getting in your gloves. The M-65 was part of an integrated Extreme Cold Weather System which includes gloves, M-65 Field Pants w/liner, and the M-51 Extreme Cold Weather Hood, which you can still buy online for about $20 US. I imagine you could wear the Mickey Mouse boots with this set up, too, since regular issue footwear leaves a lot to be desired for cold weather protection. The flaps in question attached the gloves to the sleeves, provided you have a swatch of mating loop material sewn to the back of the gloves, so there's no gap for cold air to enter (or snow, etc., potentially) . The M-51 hood attaches to the issue M-65 by means of four buttonholes on the collar and a strangely placed button on the center chest, roughly even with the top of the pockets. ( Yeah, that's what that weird button is for on all the old, GI issue field jackets clear up to the final iteration in the ACU version.)The matching buttons and buttonhole on the M-51 hood make this enhancement to cold weather parka possible. On the Rothco jacket, the buttonholes on the back of the collar are inexplicably present and occupied by 2 buttons attached to the hood hidden in the collar. To properly deploy this lightweight hood, you need to unbutton it from the collar, which clearly indicates Rothco doesn't understand what these buttonholes were originally for. The other buttonholes near the points of the collar are missing, as is the button center chest. I added them myself so I can convert their jacket to a parka when it's really cold. Some of the popular reproduction M-65 jackets actually have the hood attachment points -- Brandit and Atlanco Tru Spec, for instance -- while others don't. Propper has omitted them entirely from their commercial line, although I have one of their ACU jackets where the MilSpec appointments are present. Rothco has 2 buttonholes in the back of the collar, but not the other 2 at the points in front, and no button on the zip cover, center chest. It's not a bad jacket for the money, if you can get the color you want in one of these drops for $50. Of course, if you end up paying overseas shipping, the deal isn't nearly as enticing...

This is a REAL M-65 FIELD JACKET made by a company making the same jacket for our troops. They are made to be WORN OVER bulky stuff. It comes with a button in lining for extra warmth.....you will feel and look like a very BIG & FAT man. If you take OUT the lining.....you will LOOK LIKE A MAN WEARING A WAY TO BIG JACKET. This is NOT a fashion statement jacket. Its a soldier's jacket. If you have a problem laughing at yourself....MOVE ON. If you want a jacket that will keep you warm in the winter....THIS IS IT. STOP the whining and BUY THIS JACKET. It is worth twice the price. If you're looking for a woman, I would not wear this jacket until AFTER....if you get my drift. I'm a LARGE IN EVERYTHING....and so are my three Rothco M-65s. Any questions? Tongue is in cheek but very serious about sizing. This ain't quantum physics. Its a GD jacket!

Well, you're right! The government contracts are let to domestic manufacturers, principally Golden for the M-65 coats in recent manufacture as the ACU fiield coat. But there are over a billion people in China, and as far as I know, they all wear clothes. The Chinese are perfectly capable of making quality garments, assuming good QA at their manufacturing facilities. I was disappointed, recently, when I saw "made in China " on an M-65 coat from Propper that I had purchased. That is, until I realized it was actually well sewn and perfectly acceptable in every other respect than its country of origin. Not everything from China is garbage. It's complicated. Sure, I wish Propper and Atlanco made their M-65s in America, just like I wish we hadn't sold the tooling for the M14 rifle to China. But my North China Industries M-14 shoots every time I pull the trigger. So does my Norenco Mak 90 or Chinese made 1911 from Norenco . All things being equal, I'd rather have an M-65 made in America by John Owenby, Alpha, So Sew, Winfield, Rolane , or Golden in new condition. But TruSpec, Propper, and Rothco will work for me as long as they're serviceable and I can actually afford to own one. This is the world we live in.

The sizing on the Rothco website (https://www.rothco.com/size-chart/m65-field-jacket) is incorrect, I'm now stuck with a jacket that is far too large. I'd stay away from buying this until there are accurate sizing details, or you've actually tried this jacket on in person.

sin486Mind commenting on what was incorrect about the sizing so that we have a point of reference of how off the chart is? https://www.rothco.com/size-chart/m65-field-jacket
E.g. You purchased an M, the chest measurement says it's supposed to measure 25" from armpit to armpit, but yours measured ____" instead.

oatkoratAs is most everything, these days... I imagine the Chinese know how to make clothes, though: they've got like a billion people and all of them wear clothes, I think. Not everything that comes from China is necessarily rubbish.

Seems like there's a lot of sizing issues with this jacket. I'd rather pay the extra $5-10 and order from a site that offers returns.

rantngGood idea! But you could also find a local distributor and try one on for size, then order with confidence. They run big, but there is a size that will fit you, probably, even if it's not what you expected...
