Don't forget to include the cost of replacing the under powered power brick that's included with this re-badged T100 soldering iron. The unit required 24v to perform at its peak, and the included adapter is only 19v.

Has anyone else been experiencing odd service with Massdrop recently? I just received this item today but never got a shipping notification which is the second time in the past few months that has happened. What made this time even more weird was that the item appeared to be fulfilled by Amazon. It was packed in an Amazon mailer and had an Amazon-style packing slip inside.

It will take anything from 9V up to 24V. Its peak performance is at 24V 2.5A where it heats up in less than 10s to 320°C. So you can power it with pretty much anything but be aware it won't perform as good and fast as on optimal specs.

Yes it is, though with additional tip and power supply. What's even more odd is the fact there's SEED one on sale as well, without supply for more money. Mind boggles at Massdrop these days.

I cant imagine anyone needing or even desiring a portable soldering iron unless you live in a mud hut, but then this wouldn't be marketed to you anyway.

Check out the TS100. Pretty much everyone in the racing drone community uses them and they are amazing

There are very few at 65W power to be honest. Reputable brands go for more than 5x the price and perform about the same as this one.

So mine just came in a couple days ago, but funny thing is that it came in an Amazon Prime package. (and yes I had to double check my orders to make verify it came from MD) What the heck... Massdrop what's going on?

It’s only $64.99 on Amazon with free 2 day shipping with prime.. why would I buy it here when it’s more expensive?? Massdrop fail. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0183RJIUE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fCB8BbXX8VRPZ

My drop just arrived today and there's a small issue with the product description since there is neither a PR-I soldering tip nor a solder tip cleaning ball. Also the powersupply is different generic type (model: XS-1902100G8). The rattling buttons and the cheap plastic make this a rather undewhelming experience for the steep price of 75$, I'd rather use a sturdy 20$ iron that has no display/heat controls :/ You could just buy the SainSmart-ToolPAC-Soldering-Heating-Intelligent on amazon with literally the exact same price and the exact same powersupply(etc.), no need to wait for this drop.

I just happened to get mine yesterday off amazon. Heres my opinion;
It's far from the best soldering iron, if you have something like a Hakko, this isn't going to stand up to it very well. BUT if you have a cheapo 10 dollar soldering iron, this will dance circles around it all day. I personally like the small and light weightiness of it as it packs away easy as i don't have the space to just leave it out sitting when im not using it. Make sure you have some kind of secure stand if you plan on putting it down hot. the light weight of this means if the cable gets knocked, it might take the rest of the iron with it. The Iron gets HOT, FAST, in ~20 seconds it went from room temp to 300 degrees. You can upload other TS100-like model firmware onto this, and even go as far as creating your own(i dont know why one would want to, but okay). i also like that you can change the loading image that shows up on the screen, completely useless but kinda cool none the less

Power supply that comes with this iron here is at 19V. At 24V you get significantly higher power rating and faster heat times. But you are right, professional soldering iron in $300 range blows this one out of the water. However this one has huge benefit which is battery powered operation. It's a great little field iron.
