I bought this awhile back based on that Wirecutter review. It's forma factor was definitely nice at the time, but Anker & others have wisened up and have also gone slim&tall vs short&fat.
Also, now makes a high pitched whine when using the 2A port. Also, the 2A port can't seem to charge my Samsung GS5 (Verizon), not sure if it's related (it has survived a few drops though, so it might be user error).
With all that said though, it's *not* a dud, just needs an updated revision. If the form factor is important to you (it was for me, back when I was using a phone with an abysmal battery life & kept it in my front pocket all the time), it's a nice charger.
PS: It does NOT turn off automatically when discharging (charging a device). It WILL turn off automatically when you are actually charging the battery itself.
