Been following this since the drop started. At first I empathized with Jamey. If his distributors aren't happy, it directly impacts him, totally understandable. He has bills to pay, just like we all do. Okay, cool, I'll just get Scythe somewhere else.
Unfortunately the tone his replies took on really started to rub me the wrong way. His disdain for 'bargain bin pricing', his concern about being associated with what he believes (wrongly) to be a liquidation website, have led me to believe that his sole concern is about money and distributors, and not the people ultimately playing the game. If I was in his shoes, I'd be ecstatic that my game was getting into as many hands as possible, because the players are ultimately the people who will be selling the game via word of mouth, game nights, and whatever. His distributors will keep buying the game if there is demand for it, regardless of whether or not they're annoyed about this Drop. The only way they're going to have demand is if players buy, and then continue to talk about the game.
Scythe really does look great. I love the aesthetic, and the gameplay seems pretty rad as well. I'm glad that it was a success, and I truly hope it brings more people into the hobby. All that said, I'll not be getting it, or probably any other Stonemaier games. I understand that Jamey has bills to pay, and can also understand why the money is his biggest concern, but I disagree with the attitude about it.
So yeah, hopefully I don't come across as egotistical, or entitled. I just felt like I needed to say why I won't be getting the game.
