Product Description
If you were to pull elements from a grandfather clock and shrink them down to fit inside a watch, you may come up with something similar to the Sea-Gull D819.428 Automatic. With Roman numerals, an open-heart case, and a large onion crown, the watch gives off a vintage feel—but it’s certainly not stuck in the past Read More

I don't know, this is my first watch of this type so I guess I don't mind if it breaks in a year or two , its$200. Do you guys recommend taking it to a watchmaker to have it lubricated before use?

I got a similar looking model from MassDrop: Sea-Gull Double Retrograde 819.317 Watch. The date dial sure is a pain in the butt to adjust rather than the ones that you can adjust with the knob. The movement runs fast so I have to adjust the time back to normal like every now and then. It's my first and only automatic so I don't know if that's normal or what. I get a lot of compliments whenever I wear the watch.

Mine has been running well since it arrived in 2/16/15. I hope it will stay that way for awhile. I'm eyeing other brands such as Seiko and Orient next.

Seagull has also stolen designs from Aevig, an excellent microbrand, after being contracted to produce a prototype for them. Don't support them.

In such small print ....China Made, as if they are hiding that fact. Pass. It looks nice on the surface though.

trosa>China Made, as if they are hiding that fact.
US, Swiss and Japanese watches do the exact same thing. If this is your reasoning for passing on a quality Chinese watch, then you're an idiot.

this is a China made movement, and it has been used on many cheap brands and Arbutus is also using seagull movements.. quality sucks and it started to be malfunctioning once it touches almost 1 year.. they dont maintain it but instead they just replace with a new movement.. to me... any watches using seagull movements, my advise to everyone not to go for it

FYI, " Ticking since 1955, Seagull has risen to become the world’s largest producer of watch movements(!). Unbelievably, they produce roughly a quarter of the 20 million movements made each year. " Try this: http://gearpatrol.com/2014/01/14/opinion-rethinking-made-china/ or this: http://wornandwound.com/review/a-look-at-the-seagull-1963/

watches with the days of the month dials are truly more of a pain than they are a convenience.

tomwmconverted from chinese- google translate. only place i can find this watch. an they sell for 186 usd. based on what i see, nice enough watch- but nothing special and little to much money for me. "Recent evaluation 11 after the cheap, okay, decent, and,. The table is very beautiful, the picture will be a little deviation, the dial will be a little yellow, just a little exclusion, the back is also very nice to see, very atmospheric, a lot of friends say good-looking, here presented self-photographs, we appreciate. The table has a problem with the table interface is crooked a fold is very difficult to buckle button there is also muster of the depressed dead count this how it happened. Product quality is very good Oh, put on feeling good Oh, the first table size is very good, like the style I like the way, the belt breathable well, comfortable, the following figure for your reference. 2 days after receipt of goods feel good, very beautiful and have a feeling of Shen, travel time is also accurate, a few seconds a day of error, value for money, very good."

Learned a new word from this, "dead nuts":
"In the scale industry which dates back to the beginnings of measurement; Dead Naught or the point at which there is no movement of scale is Dead Zero. Naught is the arithmetical symbol 0(Webster). Zero was replaced with Naught having the same identifier as a position of "Zero". One can look at the orientation in Nautical and Firearm (Military) Terms (As described in earlier accounts, and restated here): The point of departure in reckoning; specifically : the point from which the graduation of a scale (as of a thermometer) begins (2) : the temperature represented by the zero mark on a thermometer b : the setting or adjustment of the sights of a firearm that causes it to shoot to point of aim at a desired range. The Dead Nuts is simply the wrong spelling for Dead Naught but is well accepted and will remain a constant for many years to come. Remember before we had digital scales there were threaded nuts that were locked in place to set the zero. A scale adjusted to and set to zero has "Dead Nuts."
The site also mentions that some people say "dead balls accurate," so we went from "naught" to "nuts" to "balls," hilarious!
