I believe I was suckered on this. The quality of what I was sent is less than garbage. This wasn't a deal. It is a sucker punch to my trust in Massdrop.
1. I ordered a "SEEED" product and received a piece of crap with a "SEEED" paper label slapped on the bottom of the product box. It is, as far as I can tell, manufactured by a Chinese company named Gaosuo.
2. There are numerous spelling mistakes on the product box and the user manual is Chinglish. It is mostly about installing and using the software. There is no documentation about the button on the camera, nor the brightness adjust on the cable going to the camera.
3. It came with a CD of very poor quality. I cannot reliably read the CD on either of my CD drives. For both the drive is constantly hunting. It's a good thing that there is a link to a RAR file of the CD contents on the Massdrop product description page.
4. The bracket to hold the microscope on the stand does not fit the body of the camera. It simply DOES NOT FIT! It is not the correct size. Therefore I cannot use the stand.
5. The Massdrop page says the "microscope" has a magnification of ratio: 20–500x. That is a total lie. Magnification is not, under any possible definition, equivalent to "digital zoom". Anyone who uses "digital zoom" with a camera is an idiot. You get less data and a crappier picture.
6. I attempted to use the supplied software on my Windows 10 64bit system. It did install; and it did connect with the microscope camera. As far as I know, any program which works in Windows 7 should work in Windows 10. I attempted to save an image using the Gaosuo software. Every attempt to save a picture failed, although the software behaved as though it worked.
7. I have been able to use the device with both the Windows 10 Camera app and VLC. I'm still researching as to whether I can also use Irfanview with the camera. I did however learn that I must connect the camera before starting either program, otherwise the camera is not detected correctly.
8. As far as I can tell, the camera will only produce 640x480 still images. This is in direct conflict with what the Massdrop product page said. There it states "Still capture and video resolution: 1600 x 1200p, 1280 x 1024p, 1280 x 960p,1024 x 768p, 800 x 600p, 640 x 480p, 352 x 288p, 320 x 240p, 160 x 120p"
I am still investigating; however, at this time my conclusion is that this drop is not worthy of Massdrop and definitely not even worth $40. If I cannot make it work better I am going to ask for my money back. If by some chance I keep the camera, I will, presuming I can somehow make the stand work with a different holder, glue weights to the bottom of the stand. The stand 'tings' like metal; however, it is very light weight.

NuXeRI think it has been said before that Massdrop doesn't write the copy. The vendor does, and they just use that copy. That said, vetting the vendor claims would seem to be on Massdrop. But from the volume that they push through, I can see why that bit of QC slips through. So the question, I guess is more QC and less drops? Or trust the manufacturer, and deal with the fallout in those cases that there is a problem. I like the quantity of drops that MD provides.

ChuckDeeA new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.

RoostrC0gburnI think you said something. But I couldn't see the argument through the nonsense. If I had to guess, I'd say you were describing a man made of straw.

ChuckDeeits a quote from fight club. the point is that it is cheaper to deal with our complaints than to fix the product

RoostrC0gburnYup. Straw man. My point was that the copy comes from the company that makes the product, not massdrop.
