I prefer the look of the leather band over the oyster-style braclet, but I've heard the strap on this is poor and not worth using. Anyone have a suggestion for a leather band that would work well with this?

ApesI have spent some time on this. If you want a similar looking strap to what is already provided I think the Hirsch Duke is a nice option. Otherwise,
Smart casual, more smart: http://shop.wornandwound.com/collections/straps/products/model-2-cordovan-mahogany Smart casual, more casual: http://www.hirschstraps.com/collections/hirsch-straps/products/hirsch-rivetta-calf-leather-watch-strap-gold-brown
Casual: http://shop.wornandwound.com/collections/straps/products/mil-strap-horween-russett Casual, NATO: http://www.crownandbuckle.com/straps-by-size/20mm-straps/black-olive-bond-hd-nato-20mm-ballistic-nylon.html
This even looks sick with a bund strap (from online images that I've seen). The best thing is that the case is SS, and the markers are gold. So both gold and silver color hardware will look good on the straps. Personally I really like the Hirsch Rivetta.
Will be nice to hear what others think about straps.

payodpandaSolid list. That Hirsch strap is nice. You may even see it on Massdrop in the future...

ChristopherJAwesome. How far into the future, any idea?
The Rivetta has been discontinued in the past, but it was brought back in stock, from what I've read online. I'm just trying to debate whether to hold out on buying the strap until it's featured here as a drop (and risk it going out of stock) or buy it right away, just in case.

payodpandaI can't give a timeline or make any guarantees since things are still being worked out. Sorry!

payodpandaNice list, the rivetta ought to look good. Here's mine on this http://www.hirschstraps.com/products/hirsch-ascot-english-leather-watch-strap-gold-brown (I replaced the hardware with a deployant clasp)

coaxmetalThat looks beautiful. Very classy.
How do you have a deployant clasp on it?
EDIT - nvm I didn't see your comment on the clasp, just clicked on the link came back here and commented.

payodpandaYes, straps, always a tough choice, so many to choose from. For this Alpinist I'm thinking maybe: Hirsch Modena in Brown (http://www.hirschstraps.com/products/hirsch-modena-alligator-embossed-leather-watch-strap-brown)

or Hirsh Grand Duke in Brown (http://www.hirschstraps.com/products/hirsch-grand-duke-waterproof-alligator-embossed-sport-watch-strap-brown)

Probably also get a Bond NATO for something more casual (http://www.crownandbuckle.com/straps-by-color/striped-nylon/bond-nato-20mm.html)

l3xm4rkIf you have Amazon Prime, they have most Hirsch straps for 30% off today. I just bought five. :D
I would have been devastated had they had the Alpinist for 30% off too. They have quite a few Seikos and Orients (including the Bambinos, but Massdrop had a better deal) on discount for "Prime Day".

payodpandaMine too, haha. Have bought 4 watches on here recently (This Alpinist, Orient Bambino, Orient Producer and Seagull M17). Some of the watch boxes are 30% off on Amazon too, including Wolf Designs.
Eek.
