The tax is unfortunate. If there was none for CA I'd pick it up here , but as I can order it straight from Japan and get it around $30 cheaper than the total incl. tax I'll have to pass.

KiyoeIt's also worth it to note that we will be shipping these from the US. If you import from Japan, you may be hit with customs fees. We've factored this into the drop, so it's one less thing you would need to worry about if you are in the US.

ChristopherJWhat do you mean by having the customs fees factored into the drop? Will there be no customs fees if shipped to Canada?

SynaptixxI apologize if that was confusing. I was responding to Kiyoe and I was referring to domestic/US orders.

KiyoeIf you're saying that you could get it straight from Japan for $30 cheaper than MassDrop's price + the tax you're charged, you might think again.
Seiya Japan sells it for $378 with free EMS shipping.
However you'd owe ~$18 in duty to get it into the US.
Even if you found it for the price MassDrop has right now, you'd still be paying ~$16 extra for import duties, so...

man.ho.wangSeiya Japan has free EMS shipping as I mentioned, yes.
However, they do NOT have a better price. Unless you're using some weird version of math where $387 + import duty is less than $334.99 or $324.99.

YankeeBravoI have a site I regularly purchase from for items from Japan where it is currently listed at approx $336 with exchange rate + shipping which is $14 so total being $350. I've never been charged duty spending hundreds there before. Massdrop with tax + shipping the total for me would come to $360 approx with shipping and tax and that is with the lowest of $324.99. So I'm saving less than I originally quoted but I also can get it in two-five days when I do choose to order. So it really does not make a huge difference but main thing is I can get the "massdrop" price or better whenever I'd like.

KiyoeWould be curious what the site is to purchase other things from Japan.
That said at the new price point it is unbeatable. I am having mine sent to a friend in NYC, where it isn't taxed and just picking it up on the weekend it arrives.

madcatmk3Just noticed I didn't mention that. Site is Nippon Yasan https://www.nippon-yasan.com/japanese-import-watches/6847-watch-seiko-mechanical-x-shinobu-ishigaki-sarb065.html . They also have a pretty decent bonus point system.

KiyoeDuty gets complex quickly.
There are different thresholds and allowances for different categories of items, so, sure, it's entirely possible to import and not owe money.
However, in this case, an automatic wrist watch with a leather wristband means $336 is over the threshold, so you'd owe. Some unscrupulous sellers will help you avoid fees, but it's not a good idea, particularly if you're frequently importing as you're already on the radar.
