A few points:
  1. Just a reminder for those who aren't aware, an SKX013 is a smaller (37mm vs 42mm) watch than the others offered. It is not the same thing as SKX007 on a stainless bracelet.
  2. If you're partial to a stainless bracelet on the full size watch, buy the 007, and order an upgraded bracelet from Strapcode or Island Watch
  3. If you have a lot of watches, the ones that don't hack and wind will eventually bug you
  4. Lastly, forget all the nonsense about "J" models

SKX007 on a Strapcode Super 3D Jubilee Stainless bracelet (or whatever they're calling them this month) Not a necessity, but kind'a cool,

RayFI too love my SKX with the standard Seiko standard stainless bracelet and Pepsi bezel. screw down crown, date and time, 200 mtr diver. It’s a fabulous watch and incredible value. Also have the rubber band model with black bezel which can be worn in the sea, dinner parties.....anywhere!

CabriobeeetleGlad to hear it! I've never actually worn and SKX on the supplied rubber strap, but I did buy one of Seiko's newer silicone straps (the kind that ship on newer Seiko Tunas, in my case). I put that one on an Ice Monster and I love it-- it's extremely comfortable.

RayFWatches that don't hack are indeed annoying. Some can be kinda/sorta be hacked by back pressure on the stem. No idea if this is possibly damaging but I personally never broke a watch like that. I don't know if they've improved since I had a Monster but the stock black crinkly strap is crapola. The Monster I owned would always end up stopped on my wrist but in fairness I strive to live a completely sedentary lifestyle. Best thing Seiko divers have going for them is the lume which is pretty awesome.

TragiqueWell I confess to being a little on the lazy side too--and I don't like picking up an automatic that I've neglected (for three or four days) that has to be reset before wearing (I generally get around to the wind-able ones to keep them ticking more often than not). I do have a couple of quartz watches and I'm always thrilled to see the correct date and time on those when I decide to it's their day to be worn. They're not as sexy, but their always right (reminds me of an ex-wife I once had). Just a note about that silicone strap on the Monster--it does not fit the watch without some fairly heavy modifications (with an X-acto knife). If you don't mind that bit, you'll love the strap ;- )

RayFLove the ex-wife comment lol Let me ask you this, would the black rubber strap on the Samurai watch work on this one ? If I was to replace it, online it says it would work on any watch with a lug to lug of 22 mm i heard that Samurai strap is very nice and comfortable. Also heard the watch h is great but apparently doesn’t keep accurate time like its way off 45 second or so.

Hewitt29That's a good question; truthfully, I don't know. That bit about "works on any 22mm watch" is what made me buy mine--turned out to be inaccurate. Yes, it will fit between the lugs, but the geometry that locates the spring bar within a set of lugs, is a whole different animal. On my Monster, those damn holes are extremely close to the watch case, such that LOTS of rubber had to be trimmed away to get my strap's holes to line up with the watches lug holes. I've experienced that same design issue with my Seiko Flightmaster and nylon straps. Since those nicer Seiko silicone straps are kind'a pricey, I'd do my best to verify a specific 22mm strap will fit whatever 22mm lug watch you plan to work with. As to Seiko Samurais, mine runs fine, not slow/fast or otherwise--obviously someone is bound to run into lemon now and then, but I'd guess that's pretty rare. Concerning the strap issue, I can say that the (drilled) lugs on a Samurai are located much further from the watchcase than on the other models I've mentioned--meaning you might have better luck with that strap change than I did. Best advice I could give you would be to ask Mark at Long Island Watch for his opinion; he's pretty good at getting back to folks. So, best of luck, let us know how it goes!

RayFPoint numbers three and four... You are absolutely correct on both counts. I own two 7002 s, and one 6309. All three are modded, that's the only reason I put up with a non-winding, non hack movement. Also, I've found that my Orient Ray II with winding / hacking for $145 is a far better watch then the xks. Only my opinion, of course.

riggarobYou're right--if SKXs offered those features (especially at that price), Seiko wouldn't sell near as many Turtles, and probably a lot fewer Samurais too!
