Spent all weekend scouring the interwebs looking for a better deal on this watch. You can find it on Amazon for ~170USD+shipping, and there are a LOT of options for Seikos in this price range. The Seiko 5's look very similar to this, but with a slightly smaller case diameter for ~60USD. For those that want a sweeping second hand motion there appears to be the SNZG series that has the same case (I think) as this but is an automatic.
This will by my first foray into a semi-decent watch (for poor people like myself anyway), and for many of the reasons listed in the article I think I'll be going with this one for the needle hands, 24H number format, and kinetic movement. I really hate to wait a month for shipping, but I don't think I'm going to be able to find this watch in my area, try as I might.
I'd love to hear any sort of informal discourse about this watch at ALL because there is nothing on the internet about it.
edit: and the green sells out literally as soon as I post this. gg.

jhocelotseiko is a really nice watch for around 200. Mechanical movement is nice but as someone else stated, it only lasts a couple days. This is a different kind of mechanical watch that stores energy as electricity and can last for months. I also like the 24hformat. It will be a bit smaller than is popular right now, but im not really concerned with that. Seiko makes a nice watch, and I like that they make their own movement: I feel like Im getting better value on the rest of the watch because the movement costs them less to produce than it costs other companies to purchase. Also, other companies at this price dont seem to maintain clean, classic looks as well as seiko. I also like the Mondaine swiss railways watch a lot for clean and classic design, but their mechanicals are a bit more expensive, around 3-500 I think
I got a seiko sea urchin late last year and I love it. the steel bracelet is a little less substantial feeling than the case part, but I put it on a nato strap right away because I like them. if you image search sea urchin nato strap youll see what i mean. Also, who wants to lose a watch because a mm's-thick steel pin broke? not me. I'll be getting the steel bracelet version of this one too, just in case I want to use a steel bracelet someday, but I'll pick up a nato strap for it right away.
I can review 2 nato strap sources as well if you are interested in one of those.
