Think of the Seiko 5 SNZG as the big brother of the company’s popular SNK. While both share the same military aesthetic, and both make excellent introductions to automatic watches, the SNZG is—at 42 millimeters in diameter—slightly larger than its counterpart. And while the SNK is fitted with S726 21-jewel movement, the SNZG features 7S36C 23-jewel movement. The SNZG also has the addition of an internal bezel, which lends added depth and complexity to the watch. And instead of Flieger-style hands, the SNZG dons lumed baton hands. Though, like its counterpart, it features a seconds hand tipped in red.
Note: At checkout, choose the SNZG11J1 (+$10), SNZG13J1 (+$10 ), or SNZG15 model.
Like all military watches, the SNZG features an easy-to-read dial marked with large Arabic numerals at all positions except 3 o’clock, which instead features an outlined day-and-date window. The inside track features small Arabic numerals, from 13 to 24. The hour positions are also appointed with large lumed hash markers, while the minute positions are denoted by thin stick markers. For a look at the automatic movement, the SNZG features a display caseback.
