Gear up for adventure with a stylish and rugged Prospex Solar Chronograph Watch from Seiko. Made with Seiko’s own solar quartz movement, these watches waver just 15 seconds a month on average Read More
There are two problems with this drop:
A) First, the 769 and 777 models aren't comparable to the Divers offered and are frankly just cluttering up the damn drop--ignore them completely!B) Second, but more to the point, the four remaining legitimate Divers are all ridiculously over-priced "J-models" (J for: domestic Japanese market), which to my mind have always been a way to convince the very gullible among us, to spend an extra hundred dollars or more, on the same damn watch they could otherwise buy, without the J designation!
As for the watches themselves (in non-J versions), they're fine--no problems there. If you're looking for one at a reasonable price, they're easily found on Amazon in lots of color ways, and all in the mid three-hundred dollar range!
One final note--that 618(J1) is actually ROSE Gold, not the Gold PVD finish you'd find on a Seiko SRPC44, for instance.
All of which is to say, and as my good friend @Watchyoutalkingabout reminds us...always chose wisely!
And speaking of choosing wisely, the Glycine Combat Sub Vintage is still available here, for $345--a much wiser pick than any of these J models, if you ask me ;- )
Also: On the J1 models, the chono-minutes subdial at 6 o'clock also doubles as a power-reserve indicator, hinting that the movement on these models is different from the 618 (whose overall aesthetics I also prefer, BTW, in spite of not being big on anything gold). Of course, I can't see paying prices higher than what the 618 is on offer for here; my Casio Edifice EQSA500DB-1A (memo to self: make this the last watch with a model designation I always have to look up to recall) was roughly the same price, and runs circles around these Seikos while not looking overwrought…and I say this as a big Seiko fan.

That is a substantial difference--odd how neither I nor the eagle-eyed spec guys at MD Watch Central didn't catch that!
Makes a big difference; thanks for pointing it out.

$600 for a non dlc case, solar quartz movement, but the size and thickness of an automatic dive watch.
At least you’re finally getting a sapphire crystal that won’t scratch like Hardlex.
For the same price as 4-5 of these, you could have your choice with a wide range of omega speedmasters. Choose wisely.
Yes, when I lived in LA many moons ago ,buying a 2-4 year old car was the way to go. And if it's out of warranty then non BMW service saves you a lot!! Here in Aussieland a 4 year old 528 or similar would still cost usd excess $40000!! And here even non BMW service will decimate your wallet. So unless you are well healed or very badge aware not a clever buy here. The resale is starting to suffer massive depreciation, but that's because we have an aggressive luxury car tax. Our wealthy friend is probably the Benz owner I would suggest. Traditionally good resale , as to be honest the German made models,(not S.A. or U.S. or Canada.) were really solid. But he may even have a "Porch" by now!!!
Must be a mistake on the price!! The SSC759J is only at around $400 usd normal aking price on "Starbuy.com.au" Yesterday it was on special about $375 usd. So I think Drop must have made a mistake. Some of the others are reasonably priced. SSC757J1 is also a little overpriced, but the black "Ninja" version not too bad. I guess at the end of the day it all depends on the supplier.
RayFYes, still a lot, but that price is Aussie dollar, so down around $400 mark, there are a few around the $350 usd, but remember Starbuy is an AD. And those suppliers are always a bit more ,that's why the 24 hour deals that pop up are worth waiting for; the Alpinist worked out at just under $500 at the time, reasonable from an AD. Not sure if I would sacrifice four or five of my watches for one used Omega or Tag though!! As you said though at these prices Glycines do look good.
