There are two problems with this drop: A) First, the 769 and 777 models aren't comparable to the Divers offered and are frankly just cluttering up the damn drop--ignore them completely! B) Second, but more to the point, the four remaining legitimate Divers are all ridiculously over-priced "J-models" (J for: domestic Japanese market), which to my mind have always been a way to convince the very gullible among us, to spend an extra hundred dollars or more, on the same damn watch they could otherwise buy, without the J designation! As for the watches themselves (in non-J versions), they're fine--no problems there. If you're looking for one at a reasonable price, they're easily found on Amazon in lots of color ways, and all in the mid three-hundred dollar range! One final note--that 618(J1) is actually ROSE Gold, not the Gold PVD finish you'd find on a Seiko SRPC44, for instance. All of which is to say, and as my good friend @Watchyoutalkingabout reminds us...always chose wisely! And speaking of choosing wisely, the Glycine Combat Sub Vintage is still available here, for $345--a much wiser pick than any of these J models, if you ask me ;- )

RayFDo you mean the 618!! With gold PVD? At least the dial is better balanced, the date window in the other diver's watches here seems to cut into the dot indices; for me it's like when the sub dials on a chrono cut into the arabic numerals making the chrono style look like an afterthought! But in this case just bad design as there is room for both as the dial on the 618 demonstrates; maybe for some reason they have used a slightly different movement; I did notice the calibre number is different, I wonder if the difference in performance is significant enough to prefer this movement and the effect it has on the dial geometry! in any event being solar quartz there should have been plenty of room inside this size case!!

JAone Yes, I did mean the 618, thanks for the catch. And I hadn't noticed the way the frame of the date window (on all but the 618) cuts into the 4:00 o'clock marker until you pointed it out (another good catch). Near as I can see, it's the frame around the window that lead Seiko to take that route--a terrible mistake in my opinion. I guess that explains why I was momentarily tempted by the 618. I would have taken the plunge too, if I hadn't discovered the Rose gold vs Gold distinction.

Tip of the hat to your keen vision on both counts!

RayFSeems overpriced...I picked up a Seiko SSC701 that is a dead ringer for the 618 (only in a lovely blue) in a drop a year or (4.7²x [7 § ¾(13³) 5^° - {4/8²}]) ago that was substantially less than 3 bills...I'm really happy with it: bright markers, easy to read face, comfy silicone band, gunmetal case, a nicely done GITD pip on the bezel (sadly, missing on the Baby Monster I got at right around the same time...), screw down crown/chrono buttons - I have zero complaints, and there's a lot to like....buUut<while mine isn't colored gold, it was also $120 less than the 618 in this drop. promo photo

Nothing in this drop appeals to me more than the one I already have....especially for the $$

RayFAlso: On the J1 models, the chono-minutes subdial at 6 o'clock also doubles as a power-reserve indicator, hinting that the movement on these models is different from the 618 (whose overall aesthetics I also prefer, BTW, in spite of not being big on anything gold). Of course, I can't see paying prices higher than what the 618 is on offer for here; my Casio Edifice EQSA500DB-1A (memo to self: make this the last watch with a model designation I always have to look up to recall) was roughly the same price, and runs circles around these Seikos while not looking overwrought…and I say this as a big Seiko fan.

amateriat That is a substantial difference--odd how neither I nor the eagle-eyed spec guys at MD Watch Central didn't catch that! Makes a big difference; thanks for pointing it out.
