Can Massdrop mark the package as a gift to avoid customs surcharges? It's a killer price point at 270 but it makes no sense to pay 1/4 more import charges, at least not for me.

dcstefanI would like to know this as well. With the way the Canadian dollar is right now I would like to avoid any custom and duty fees when it reaches my doorstep. I would like to know this before I commit to the drop.

dcstefan@jaetran I just spoke with our logistics team and the short answer is that we cannot mark packages as gifts. We've come across this before, but if you're shipping something from the US into Canada, there's no easy way around customs. Some Canadian and international customers have reported that they weren't charged with anything after receiving their watch.

ChristopherJThanks Chris. Angela S. from the support team provided a similar response. I quote: "Unfortunately, we cannot alter any shipping information to avoid government customs fees. For all countries, the taxes levied on imported goods is up to the discretion of the customs agent within reason. Every country is different, and we cannot keep track of each country's varying import costs for different products. It is the responsibility of an importer to be aware of the relevant laws and taxes that their country imposes on them.
Custom fees typically consist of; taxes, handling, and brokerage fees. We will ensure to reimburse you for any brokerage fees that have been charged against you as from the shipped (DHL, UPS, etc) to clear your package at Customs. We ask that you send us a clear, digital copy of your receipt for your paid Custom fees should you have a brokerage fee within that charge."

dcstefanFor fellow Canadians....I got in on the last drop, and previously posted my end price. My invoice price was 279 and change, with shipping. With the exchange, my credit card price was a few cents under $380 Canadian. ouch. Then I had to pay almost $50 at the post office. It really added up.
