This Seiko 5 Sports watch is affectionately nicknamed the “Fifty Fathoms,” as it features design elements from the iconic diver of the same name. The watch utilizes a Seiko 23-jewel 7S36 automatic movement set inside a 42-millimeter stainless steel case Read More
Great watch. Great bang for buck. Oddly get a lot of compliments on this watch. I like Hardlex for the price, I don't care about the strap (change it out as soon as I get it anyway) I would rather the money all go into the watch itself and stay so wonderfully affordable. Quibbles: I wish it were a little thinner. I wish it was less glossy and glare prone. Some A/R coating would have made the watch a lot more readable in the sun. Still absolutely fantastic watch for the money.
kp-8Well done review and agree on all points. To chip in, I like canvas/military type straps with this one. It accents the vintage bezel look which gets compliments. Anyone notice hour/min hand lume? It is like vellum in daylight. You can read through the min hand. It looks great at night. The lume on face is fantastic. Final: the gold hour indication on face looks a bit more champagne and sets it a bit apart from bezel. One wish: white second hand sweeper, not gold. Boom.
I bought mine FFF a year ago. Black+gold version in my opinion looks best. The movement seems to be slightly better than the specs says. It loses about 10 seconds per day (but it's not a big problem since this is not my only watch) and the power reserve is about 45 hours.
The bezel rotates easily (it's not as tight as in my Orient Ray) and I get the impression that bezel markings do not align perfectly with the dial indices. Worth to note that the bezel glass is also slightly curved.
Recently I replaced the original bracelet (very comfortable, by the way) with a cheap leather strap from China as I think brown leather suits it perfectly.
Mike987Lookin' good Mike, I've also had mine about a year. It's been on a few straps but ended up on a Zulu Black with brass fittings. Which also makes it lighter. Regards, X
So I just picked up my SNZH53J1 from the post office and opened up the box, excited to receive my new watch.
It looked stunning and I set the time and date, loosened the strap to take it off the pillow and I hear a light "plink" onto my desk. The glass case back fell off the watch before I even had a chance to try it on...
Extremely disappointed in the quality. Will be contacting support to see how to get this resolved.
Considering this is my first Drop order... I don't know what to think... Will be contacting support and updating once I hear back.
For this price, there really was no debate. I already knew that Seiko 5’s are great watches, and after the digging I had done I knew this was the most affordable option for me. Regardless, an automatic with day/date and hardlex mineral crystal for this price range is always going to sound good, such is the magic of the Seiko 5. The look, feel and construction of this watch does not let down.
To me the watch is a little small and I’m not happy with lum they also are small ... now the watch itself is nice ... if the face were bigger and the lum were more pronounced it would be 5 stars

Maybe 6 stars if it were an SKX007 or a SRP777 Turtle then, right?
I know what you mean--if my Accord was a Corvette, I'd give it a couple more stars too ;- )
