So this is more expensive than say, the baby ice monster, which has solid end links and a better movement. Buy this one for the looks, not the specs. I’d also budget for a sapphire crystal swap - the only hardlex crystal I have with scratches is my flightmaster which also has a domed hardlex as well.

WatchyoutalkingaboutEver the Hardlex nay-sayer aren't you? Once again I find myself compelled to point out I have a dozen (or more) Seikos with Hardlex crystals and nary a one have ANY scratches. Of course I don't have anything against Sapphire crystals, but I sure as hell wouldn't buy a $145 watch with the intention of going through the added expense and trouble of replacing a part that's not broken. As for your comparison to the Ice Monster, HA! There is no comparison! The SNZH is more refined and sophisticated, and dare I say "delicate" than a big, clunky, thick-as-brick, SRP481! Need I remind you, there's a reason they call them Monsters! You certainly get an upgraded hacking/winding movement with the Ice Monster (and more lume, if that's your bag) but really, neither are more than snappy-looking desk divers since Seiko opted against screw-down crowns for both. I say no one should be forced to chose between the two, they should buy both!

RayFAh @RayF you curmudgeonly light reader, I’ll abide by hardlex, But Never, Ever Domed Hardlex. I look at my flightmaster and say why, what did I do to deserve this? Ray told me it would be fine. I trusted him! And yet there those scratches lay, on the highest peak of Seiko’s proprietary mineral glass, and I stay staring out the window, idling wiping away at the scars that shall never fade. You monster.

WatchyoutalkingaboutCould have been worse; look what happened to my Hardlex Rolex!

I was at work, washing windows on the fifty-seventh floor of the Chrysler Building, when it slipped off my soapy wrist and fell to the sidewalk below and then somebody kicked it through the subway grate, where it was subsequently run-over by the damn "A-Train"! Cheap piece of s&*@t, look at it now!

RayFYou know, I bet after a nice sapphire replacement was fitted, that 16710 was good to go for another few decades. If it had been, gasp, hardlex? The Watch would’ve caught on fire.

WatchyoutalkingaboutYup, the next day--that's exactly what happened. A tragic smoking accident, unfortunately.

RayFOh I was drunk. But the drinking was AFTER the scratches YOU said I wouldn’t get. Now I’m drowning my sorrows in a bottle Johnny Walker.

WatchyoutalkingaboutWell I've heard one should never drink alone, so in the spirit of togetherness, I'm going put on two Monsters and drink two bottles of Bourbon...

Then I'm going to run down to Costco (they're having a sale) and replace my flaming heap of melted Rolex parts with something a little more befitting of my station in life:
