The Seiko Solar Chronograph Watch features a quartz movement that is charged through solar energy. The watch displays chronograph-timing minutes up to 60 minutes. The central hand indicates chronograph-timing seconds in 1/5th increments. The 9 o'clock subdial displays running seconds, and the 6 o’clock subdial is dedicated to setting the alarm.

The watch comes with a 44-millimeter steel case that has a knurled crown, a screw-in caseback, and a 120-click rotating bezel. A black dial showcases skeletonized sword-style hands, polished hour markers with beveled edges, and a date window at the 3 o’clock position. The hands and hour markers are painted with lume. Also featured is a Hardlex crystal and a steel bracelet with a 20-millimeter lug width, a folding clasp, and push-button deployment. The SSC299P1 has a water resistance of 100 meters.
