The specs on the listing say that the watches are Made in Japan. Can anyone confirm that this is in fact true? If it is true the dial should say "Made in Japan" in the small text at 6 o'clock and the full model number on the back should end with J1 (ex. SBDC033J1). Thanks

BericKLYNI don't own one (yet), but photos I've seen of the SBDC001/3/31/33 show that the dial simply has "JAPAN", followed by the movement "6R15-". This is similar to what you'll find on all the other JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) Seikos. Where are you getting your information about what the dial should say?
Also, when you mention " full model number on the back", are you referring to the caseback? There are no model designations on any of my Seikos, and photos I've seen of the Sumo show that to be true for it as well. :)

serifI got this info regarding made in japan from here: http://www.watchsleuth.com/seikodiverfinder/search/?MOD=SBDC033 If you click the "learn more" link next to where it says "SBDC033 is only a partial model number." you can see the full info.
I just was doing some more research and also found this forum post. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f21/where-seiko-watches-really-made-juicy-mistake-1084156.html
Ultimately I has hoping these were J1 models, not K1 or P1 models.

BericKLYNAha, I see. I'm no expert on this subject, but my understanding is that that portion in the watchsleuth website should not apply to JDM models as you will not find K or P models of JDM models. These models have no variations. They just have a 4 letter prefix. As they're technically all 'J1', it would be redundant.
Just do a search for these models on sites that sell JDM watches, like Amazon Japan and Seiya, you might see what I mean. (http://www.seiyajapan.com/collections/seiko)
My guess is that what you see on the watchsleuth site is simply a template that's been applied across the board. Note the 'If' qualifier sprinkled liberally under the "Learn more" link. "If multiple versions exist..."

serifI can't say for sure about J1 vs K1 models for the new Prospex versions, but I know that for the older "Scuba" models there were both J1 an K1 versions. The SBDC003J1 seems to have been discontinued some time ago as all the more recent SBDC003 that I've seen were the K1 varient. I was hoping with the introduction of the SBDC033 that J1 variants would be available again. Also, I think the full model is found at the bottom of the dial to the right of 6 o'clock, not on the case back as I previously stated.

BericKLYNHmm.. interesting. I didn't know that about the 1st gen Sumos.
Here are some high-res photos of the new prospex versions I found via google images, you can see quite clearly that there's no model number on the dial:
