what's gong on sennheiser?!! They put entire store into DROP with merely discount. We don't want any of your store product. We want drop xx like hd6 xx or hifiman xx or Aeon xx or focal xx. That's the only way, we the consumer save money with the taste of high quality audio. Not to mention all of Drop xx product is success even some of them better than original products where some of them priced is even less than a half. All we want to say instead of bring your whole store give us a genuine hd8XX. Of course price does matter. So collaboration with DROP, hd8XX could be even better than hd800 with lower price! Come on DROP!!! you can do it.
Thank you for your enthusiasm!
We did work carefully with Drop to make special editions of products, which have been the most popular products in the Audiophile section of drop.com. Some of them have been revised color ways with less expensive retail boxes (HD 6XX, PC37X), while the HD 58X Jubilee was a new product designed to bring a balanced, audiophile tuning to a more widely affordable price point than ever before. We can't comment on future product plans, but we wanted to give Drop a chance at some current models we've never offered here before.
We are running Summer price specials on our Audiophile products until June 21, and the deals on Drop are extra attractive due to the extra Drop Rewards credit, for example here with the HD 800S being offered with a $300 price drop plus $140 worth of Drop Rewards.
I have three different Senns and I mean it when I say they all sound good enough to be 'audiophile' quality. Like a great many people, I started here on Massdrop and picked up the HD 6XX. With all of those and the Jubilees sold through what is now Drop, it had to be apparent that you could sell a flagship model if marketed properly. The reason you sold so many HD 6XXs is because of the name on the box, but primarily it's affordable price. Why not follow the genius example set by the 6XX and set a fair price for the collaboration and sell a million HD 8XX's? I'd like to see the boost to Drop and Sennheiser's legacy.
We have received many requests like this over the years, and are aware of the interest indeed. There are many factors to consider when creating a new product, as something priced between the HD 660S and HD 800S would have to be, including having something interesting to offer beyond just a price cut... We are always working on the future of audio, and sometimes genuine innovation takes time, but right now we don't have additional announcements.
Thank you for sharing!
I can't hardly wait to see what's in store for us. I know I woefully over-simplified the process of product development, its way more complex than that. I find the entire process fascinating. From inception to R & D, to prototype. All of it. Your anechoic chamber is legendary among headphoners. Didn't I see that chamber in the film "Ad Astra" ? Brad Pitt gets all the breaks! Anyway, thanks for responding and I'm looking forward to your next offering. ;-)
@Sennheiser : Thanks for being here to support the offering. A question: has the HD 660S been discontinued, no longer available?
It’s actually on sale right now.
Yes, the HD 660S is still being produced, and starting to gain some momentum! During the pandemic, production was slowed recently, but we should have finished filling all back orders now!
Shipping times listed on Drop and other retailers should be accurate, though we try to surprise and delight if possible. As mentioned, the HD 660S isn't being offered on Drop currently as we fill existing orders, but we made sure to have stock of the models that are sold here, like the HD 800S.
I am not seeing the HD 660S offered here now, and my order from elsewhere many weeks ago is still on backorder. That’s why I asked. Maybe I get the HiFiMan Sundara instead.
Thanks, I may have not seen this review!
Good info, thanks for the link
Thanks for your HD 660S order! Yes, that model is not on Drop right now, but we just recently have been able to complete filling our existing HD 660S orders. Depending on where you ordered from, it might have to reach your retailer first, but if you ordered directly from us you should receive an email update (or your order!) soon. If you ordered directly from us and would like to check on it's status, you can contact us here: http://www.sennheiser.com/contact-center
As you can imagine, the current pandemic has added some challenges to production and shipping, but we are working hard to produce more as continuously as possible.
hd 700 is quite a bit different than 660s.. i like and own the 700 personally not a fan of the 660s
With the utmost respect, I say this in representation of a lot of other customers: we have been waiting for something like an HD 8XX for a long time, Sennheiser. Could you please consider it? Only you have the power to bring it to fruition. A lot of people that could not afford the HD 650 finally had the chance to taste it for $200 with the HD 6XX. Massdrop took the initiative, but it was you who said yes. Same with the HD 58X, which was an AWESOME move on your part that we will be always grateful for.
A lot of Drop customers are students, people with low income, and bargain hunters. What makes Drop fun for us is getting high value for our money. We're not asking for charity, but for a repetition of history in the higher end of your product line. Sennheiser, please consider producing an HD 8XX variant. We think you're missing out on a huge chunk of the market. WE ARE THAT CHUNK OF MARKET.
A LOT of people are waiting for the HD 8XX. For under $1000, it will be a huge seller. It's money that instead of going into other companies' pockets, will go into yours. You did it with the HD 650. Please do it with the HD 800. You will revolutionize the market again. Peace!
