Hey everyone,

Important update time! We're always pushing to get you the best prices possible on everything we list. That's why we come to work in the morning. Keeping that in mind, it's often difficult to get meaningful prices from vendors without a few starting orders to show you mean business. $309 was the best we could do without any orders but our plan was to go back and negotiate, cash in hand, for larger quantity price drops. We've done this in the past with lots of success.

This morning we went back with a 50 unit commitment to re-negotiate as planned. The vendor responded saying they'd love to lower the price at increased quantities but availability is a bigger problem than price. As such, we have to limit this buy to 50 units at the current price level.

As our community grows, so does our demand and we're starting to reach critical mass with big manufacturers taking notice. We're growing incredibly fast thanks to your continuing support and patience and problems like this will soon be a thing of the past. In the mean time we want to express our most sincere gratitude for your participation and understanding.

Will@Will are you going to let the trolling comments (below) and irrelevant pics be?

WillCan you clarify that a bit? Do you mean there's ONLY 50 PERIOD. Or only 50 at the price level and there will be more at a lower price point?

ROFL GG I GUESS
lyrillHonestly your comment was completely irrelevant as well. I don't understand why you would insult anyone who happens to have the money to get a nice pair of headphones. You've essentially just said "I love this music but now that a lot of people listen to it it's trash because they don't understand the "true" beauty in it". Obviously that doesn't contribute to the conversation and instead just makes you sound like a hipster dick.

WillSo I'm taking this to mean that although they are willing to drop the price, they need more than 50 buyers however, the problem is that they can't supply more than 50 so there will be no further price drop at this point?

Kind of a catch 22 if you ask me...
Chao@Chao

Sadly at this time yes, we were told there are only 50 available in total.

ChaoAgreed and well said, this whole drop was weirdly handled. Surely MD knew the possible demand for these based on the "1000 votes and a year of requests" teaser, therefore it just seems strange that they wouldn't inquire about possible limitations with the vendor from the outset. After approaching the vendor with 50 commitments today, it just so happened that 50 was the magic number that they had available all along... how coincidental. Moving forward, potential quantity limits really need to be specified up front (as in "8 days or until 50 are reached") and ironed out prior to the drop going live. I wasn't interested in joining at the $320 mark, but I certainly feel sorry for those eager to jump in who were unexpectedly closed out of this deal.

WillThis is seriously unbelievable. I just refreshed to see that this drop closed and I was still included and charged, despite submitting my cancellation request in not just one, but two places?? Just signed into Paypal and confirmed that Massdrop charged my account.

So, you all are working late enough to announce -- at the very last minute, no less -- an early surprise close at 50 commits when the count is at 46, but you conveniently don't have anybody looking at your support inbox in time to not charge somebody that opted out with plenty of time to spare? This is some kind of joke, right?

AB01I'm sure Will would have loved to let everyone know from the beginning that there was a limited quantity. I was amazed as well that the drop closed so quickly after they made the announcement. If you are new to Massdrop, please know that there usually aren't limited supplies of items, and they do their best to let us know if there will be.

@AB01 Just wait a little, Massdrop is very good about refunding people. They might not have seen the cancellation yet, but once they do, they will get the ball rolling for you. Group buys in general are a slower process than single transactions. Patience is needed for any group buy.

andrew.bThere was a full hour's time between when I sent my email (plus immediately posted notice here) and when the account was charged. @Will was still posting to the thread (directly) after me, too -- it's not like nobody from MD was looking here. If this sneaky little sequence wasn't intentional with the way things unfolded, then it sure was negligent. Just as @Chao and @AFus implied, the ... ahem... 'explanation'... we were offered was pretty nonsensical.

I couldn't have been any clearer in this thread about my commit being conditional on Mark following up his stated intention to secure a price improvement, or my extremely reasonable request that we get ample notice on any potential early close. Contrary to all the misleading warm & fuzzy buzzwords in the explanation, the way this unfolded certainly seemed calculated, and I'm pretty turned off on the whole thing right now.

I suppose congrats are in order -- Massdrop is indeed starting to look & act like a great big corporate retailer. [*sarcasm]

AB01Oh, I agree, I am turned off as well. From what I could gather, it seemed as if the people who jumped in on this gb were the guinea pigs for a later drop of these with a lower pricing. Hopefully your situation gets worked out so that you can get your money back.
