I've read that there are two version of this headphone - with the latest version having some sonic improvements. Are these NOS h/phones or brand new items, recently made?

DeleteHmm. Well looking at the images more closely - if they are representative/indicative - they look like the newer version (white screen). I have the older ones already, hence the question. A fantastic headphone which, with a cable upgrade, many still prefer to the HD800.

jusbeAFAIK the newer white diaphragm version has been made since at least 2007, it'll take a miracle for you to receive brand-new old version HD650 after 6 years.
And yes, the photos of the HD650 on the Description page are the newer version, so I think you shouldn't worry about that part.
