The first thing you’re likely to notice when you look at the Sennheiser IE 600 IEM is its unique housing. 3D-printed and molded out of a supremely resilient amorphous metal and hand-finished to add a powder-coated-esque texture, these earphones look equally futuristic and industrial Read More

The IE600 are a fantastic, starter audiophile in-ear phone (and the box layout now looks like IE900), but if you are going to pay $799 for them, buy ‘em directly from Sennheiser, as you can find them for cheaper from other authorized vendors. But $699-$799 is what you should be paying for them.
On the other hand, the IE900 are worth every penny of their $1499 MSRP, though Sennheiser usually runs sales on them for $1299-$1399.
However, I got the IE900 for $899, which was an INCREDIBLE DEAL at the time it was run. (Sennheiser had a sale on them for $999, which is lower than their average sale price, and I got a “10% first time buyer coupon” from HeadAmp, and I’ve known Justin since 2008 so I know he’s trustworthy and a capable amp builder.)
The IE900 are (and I have no clue how Sennheiser does it with a single 7mm transducer and their “X3R” three Helmholtz resonators), the most accurate, flat FR yet totally natural sounding, hands-down, best IEMs I’ve ever owned or tried (and I also own the $2,500 Audeze LCDi4 which is also up there but needs a lot of power to drive it properly, like the FiiO Q7). I’ve listened to the 13, 16 and more BA driver in-ears, and they just can’t compete. There is no BA driver that will remain flat or almost flat and not ridiculously rolled-off even approaching 20KHz, no matter how many super tweeter BAs you stick in the shell. BAs just cannot deliver in that area. The IE600’s FR is 4Hz-46.5KHz, and the IE900 is 5HZ-48KHz. Both models are superb in that regard, but the X3R tech in the IE900 makes them one of the best, if not the best, earphones in the world. The FiiO Q7 is a powerhouse with a balanced 1500mW @ 32Ω on internal battery power or 3000mW @ 32Ω with their included 12V switching power supply which slightly reduces sound quality, or you can get their PL50 low noise, linear regulated power supply (which works with the Q7 and K11). I need to get myself a PL50.
The only 3 negatives I have with the IE900 are the following:
1). The nozzle is capped with a PLASTIC piece (which on my first unit came broken on one earpiece) in the shape of a spiderweb much like the their included silicone tips.
2). The silicone tips have a mini circular piece of foam below the spiderweb (to prevent wax) and often the foam is turned on its side. I have a great tool I use to fix this issue (which is not easy as the silicone tips move between your fingers easily) which is a Japanese “Seiki” brand cuticle pusher, and that allows me to remove the tiny foam piece carefully. I then use two fingers to rotate it to the correct nozzle position, gently get it started by using a finger to push it in until the foam lines up with the top of the nozzle entry on the silicone tip, and finally use the handle end of the cuticle pusher to push the foam down all the way until it hits the spiderweb in the silicone tip, which you will feel set properly (as there is a notch about 3/16” from the bottom of the handle that allows for this) and then you can pull the handle out of the nozzle entry. (If you screw up, it’s just foam so you can try again by removing it with the head of the tool. But it is small foam and fragile foam, so treat it gently as you cannot just buy replacement foam pieces. And Sennheiser won’t sell you a replacement set of the three sizes of tips: S/M/L. They charge $20 for a set of 3 pairs of S, M or L tips. I bought extras of all sizes from Sennheiser and now have 4 sets of each size which I store in two mini ear-tip carry cases along with my two packs of “Comply series 200 round-fit with Tech-Defender S/M/L tips” as cheap eBay replacements do not have the foam, have hard plastic nozzle grips which can damage your phones, and the silicon spiderweb shape is not nearly as precise as Sennheiser’s own manufacturing.
3). They are now made in Ireland and not Germany, as with all of their headphones/earphones.
I still have an HD820 which I got nearly 18 months ago and I’ve never used it yet with my portable system or $140K home system (including my own, custom built Bellatone $80K amp and power supply based on the AMB Labs Beta22 + Signa22, thus greatly enhanced). I decided to try the closed back 820 version instead of the 800S open version as I already have the original HD800, which was in the first batch of 1000 ever made when I got them from TTVJ just two days before the 2008 LA CanJam. (The original velour ear pads and headband had been falling apart so I replaced the headband with OEM but the ear pads with leather as I was not going to shell out $300 for a pair of ear pads, and honestly they sound better with the leather ones; more like the 800S which I have heard and is obviously better than the 800.) I’ll get the HD800S one day (unless they come out with a better one first), but I’m extremely partial to my custom blood wood Audeze LCD-4, which I much prefer over their LCD-5. And I have the original 200 ohm LCD-4, which I think sounds and looks better than the 4Z. Anyway, I probably should try the HD820 already. They used to originally come with an XLR-4 cable, but they haven’t in years. (So I spent $300 on the OEM Sennheiser XLR-4 cable, even though I already have one as I build very fine cables under the name Bellatone, but I wanted their original one just to complete the 3-piece cable set.) I got the 820s for a truly excellent price though as Sennheiser’s MSRP fluctuates between $1799-$1999, but when I got them they had them on sale for $1399 + a 15% first time purchase code = $1189.15. I don’t care about the mixed reviews about the HD820. For $1189, they can’t be passed up, especially if you like the wide sound stage of the 800/800S but with a boosted bass/mid-bass response.
Anyway, if you’re considering the IE800/S, I’d personally avoid it as it has an entirely different shape and non-removable cables. For $799, the IE600 is a great, starter audiophile earphone. But if you can afford the 3D-printed, aluminum IE900, you’ll be at endgame-level earphone performance and have no need for any future upgrades (unless you choose to if Sennheiser comes out with something even better, which I said COULD be done after listening to previous models, but not the IE900; and as a side note, it holds the “900” number above any of its circumaural headphones and I believe they do so on purpose). It’s MSRP is only $100 less than the HD800S and I believe that’s due to the HD800S manufacturing cost, materials cost, and packaging cost. The same thing holds true with the HD820 having concave glass refractors and other changes to the mold, making its price even higher.
Sound quality review:
IE600: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 (Very Solid 4.0/5.0)
IE900: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 (Extremely Strong 5.0/5.0)

Not long ago, these were on sale for $599 and even briefly $499 on some other sites. I know there's a lot of inflation now, but $749.95 doesn't exactly seem like a good deal. They are excellent IEMs though.

I have not heard these but I have the 500 series and they are amazing. I use them over my custom molded IEMs all the time. Sound great with a Firefly Red

FlutteringRobotIn the past, there have been exclusive AU distributors for Sennheiser products… but Drop will sell where they can.

Headfonics review of the IE 600
https://headfonics.com/sennheiser-ie-600-review/
"The IE 600 is probably the most credible-sounding monitor I have tested from Sennheiser in a while. Granted, I have not heard the rest of the new releases but compared to their classics the dynamic driver tuning is relevant, modern, and more engaging. "

I keep hearing that these sound fantastic but the imaging and sound stage are really average at best...Anyone actually heard them and might be able to chime in? Thanks in advance!

Ferrar0Gr0upThey have good separation, so different instruments at different distances don’t sound mashed together into an intimate wall of sound… but imaging is highly dependent on how well the tuning synergizes with your ears, and each person’s ear is a filter more unique than our fingerprints. What may be average or just OK imaging for someone else might be good for you… this should be good to excellent for 70% of people.

Ferrar0Gr0upIf you have a solid IEM that’s evenly channel matched (≤0.25dB for IEM; ≤0.5dB for circumaural), has well made transducers, a well-designed acoustic cavity, and a FR of 10Hz-40KHz (harmonics matter)…..
…..THEN THE SOUND STAGE AND IMAGING ARE LESS A RESULT OF YOUR IEM, AND MORE A RESULT OF JITTER/QUALITY OF OSCILLATOR & TIMING CIRCUITRY, WHETHER USING STANDALONE ICs OR FPGA PROGRAMMING.

whatacarNone. You get “points.” $500 = 500 points = $5.00 OFF (your next purchase). 😂😂😂 It’s ludicrous.
