Inner fidelity removed the momentum from its recommended list because the urbanite is better
That was the case for the on-ear models, not the full size ones. Full size ones were knocked off by NAD VISO HP50.
I hear good things about the HP50s but after NAD's complete lack of giving a shit about the multiple failures of my $8K "Masters Series" pre/pro, I can never recommend them again. It never did everything they claimed it would, and it died completely twice, once in warranty, and once just outside, at which point they stopped caring. It was also supposed to be upgradeable with add-on cards to keep it current, but they never really bothered releasing any.
What's that you say? NAD don't make an $8K pre/pro? Well, that's what they sell it for in Australia. It's only ~$4.5K RRP in the US, but they charge a shit-ton more in Australia just because they can, but give even less support for some reason. In fact, they leave the support solely up to the local distributor and won't even answer basic support questions even if you phrase them such that a "yes/no" answer would suffice. Yay obtuse corporate policy! Anyway, I'm never buying NAD again because fool me twice, etc...
