I'm to the point now where I have been spoiled enough at home and at the office that I need a portable rig. Incoming Noob Question: Reviews on YouTube for various DAPs tend not to discuss coloration of sound. My concern is that if I'm ripping FLAC and loading it into a DAP whose op-amps color the sound in some way prior to sending the signal out to my cans with their own sound signature, am I misunderstanding what those op-amps are doing? Are they transparently amplifying? Is that a given for any portable amp/DAC(I know the better DAC can affect sound quality, but that's for obvious reasons - my question specifically centers on the amp portion.
objectionformToo many factors to completely assign most a "sound"... personally I look for reviewers/posters that have similar gear and listen to their comparisons to/with said gear.
ElectronicVicesHoping it will pair well w the Ebony TH-X00's. Love the form factor and EQ'ing in a portable. Assuming I can compensate for a set of headphones w a known sonic signature.
objectionformI have the Mahogany X00's and they are pretty amplifier friendly... I doubt you will have an issue depending on where you are coming from with your current gear.
