Is it normal if the two grooves for resting my fingers aren't aligned symmetrically with the nib?

dleblancAbsolutely. The pen can be disassembled, so you can pull out the nib and feed and rotate them to whatever position you think is best suited for you. Just remember to remove the cartridge/converter beforehand.
